What we know about the 2.1 update for the Moment

Release date: Sprint has said early second quarter 2010. That means April to mid May.

What will the update bring to the table?
(Speculation)

- Google Navigation
- Live Wallpapers
- Ability to use the MANY 1.6+ apps
- Voice Search
- Voice Input
- 3D gallery
- Native CDMA support
- Stability Improvements
- Multitouch

Will this remove root?
YES. If you have rooted your moment, root will be gone after the update. If you "need" root do not update right away. 2.1 will be rooted for the Moment but will probably take some time.

When Sprint says 2nd quarter they are speaking of course to April - June. Usually the only time you speak Jan - May is when talking financial data.

Here's what I know about 2.1 for the moment.

We don't have it yet.

This thread isn't for everyone who already knows this stuff. this thread is for people that want to open another thread and ask questions that are answered here. Instead of getting 45+ threads asking the same questions hopefully people can look here and get the answers.

1st quarter: Jan - March
2nd quarter: April - June
3rd quarter: July - Sept
4th quarter: Oct - Dec

2nd Quarter can be as late at June 30th. That's the release date I expect until Sprint says anything differently.

Until I see ANYTHING official, I treat all other posts as rumors and conjecture. Speculation is not worthy of sticky IMHO.

But, then again, I don't know you and you could be the Sprint CEO for all I know. Sources are good to have.

Thanks for the effort, though.

My current expectation is that Sprint will either drop the update in favor of the evo, or just mess this up so badly that nobody will want it and then hope every one will just switch to the evo, or whatever is their most advertised.
Unless Sprint is planning on giving us new customer pricing on the EVO, they'd better not stop supporting their existing devices just because something better came along. This isn't really a true free market situation where we are free to shop around for alternatives.

I just want pinch to zoom and better signal, the basics. I was just playing with a coworkers HTC Droid Eris and she still has 1.5 as well but has pinch to zoom. Just makes me disappointed in what's missing. Also having to "hope" there will be signal to be able to go on the internet everyday is pretty sad. And this is my second Moment with the same problems.

I used to be part of the hype of wanting a "ground breaking" 2.1 update, but just playing with other phones makes me just want the solid basics because like I always say, I love the phone itself its just lacking.

Not necessarily, sometime companies will start their first quarter in February because they want January sales to reflect in their 4th quarter earnings. I'm not sure how Sprint operate but that has been the case for some big retail chains.

I'm pretty sure when they mention 2nd quarter it's April - June and they are going off the calendar year not on a fiscal year.

Most people when they think 2nd quarter, aren't thinking fiscal year, besides if they were going that route it's already 3rd quarter

Yup, in the retail world, January is usually pretty dismal. By shifting things a little bit, they can take January and group it in the same quarter as the Christmas season's sales to help average out the numbers and keep the first quarter from looking so depressing on paper.

Back when I was in retail hardware, February wasn't all that great either.
