Corporate stores don't know about new phone releases?

I stopped by two corporate stores in my area today wanting to confirm they would have the DNA on the 21st. They both knew nothing about the new phone release and one actually said "we don't know until 24 hours before the release". How can the corporate stores not know when a new phone is going to be released? I thought they trained their people days in advance so they could demonstrate the new phone's features...?

When I was showing of the DNA at the authorized retailer (not a corporate store) the lady was doing her training on the DNA already... fwiw

I think stores are just like that. My store near me didn't know about the Razr HD Maxx until a day or two before. There aren't that bright or just not well informed.

or don't care. The people that work in the stores aren't necessarily phone-geeks just because they work at a phone store. I worked in a deli in HS for 4 years, after about 6 months I hated cold cuts and everything we sold, i was sick of it because I was around it all day, they're probably just as desensitized.

Yeah I agree with that, I worked as an assistant manager at Domino's Pizza for quite a few years in HS. Couldn't stand the smell of their pizza and didn't like it for a long time.

But with that said my last job I was in IT for quite a few years, and I absolutely loved it and the technology. I think high school jobs are a little different and personally I would love to work at a cell phone store, but the pay for me would be a big downgrade so it wouldn't be worth it.

But I understand your point, to most people it is just a job, not everyone loves phones like us.

yes of course. Whether or not they take that seriously enough to actually talk about said phones to customers is up to them, but VZW (and all carriers I assume) do provide training materials so that the reps can tell customers about them

I remember when the first Droid was released. The local corporate store was filled with promotional material and the reps were promoting it. There was one person in the store who was the designated droid specialist and she answered the more technical questions. There was some buzz happening. The DNA has been getting so much attention on the web that I thought the store reps would at least know about it LOL. Who knows, maybe they're overworked and can't keep up - I don't mean to be hard on them.

In my experience, the corporate stores train employees about 1-2 weeks before a phone launch, BUT they don't tell them when the phone is launching.

For most phones on VZW, I do believe that most employees only get about a 24 hr notice of the launch date. VZW has always followed the philosophy that the sales staff to focus on selling current phones, not phones that may or may not get released, even if it is only a week or a day away ...

That sadly makes sense, why tell people to leave and possibly come back when you can sell a phone right then.

I just went to my Verizon stores and none of them will have it tomorrow. One said they probably won't get it for another week, while the corporate store said they won't have it until Black Friday! I have to travel 50 miles to actually be able to get the phone tomorrow. If this is supposed to be their flag ship phone, I hate to see how they treat the low level releases.
