Best Weather Widget

New to Android. Running JB 4.1.1 Sense+. Was interested in recommendations on weather widget/app based on these goals:

Something that doesn't take up a lot of space (using Widget Lock and I don't want it to take 1/3 of my lockscreen.) For example, I don't us a clock widget as the clock is always in the upper right of the notification bar! (Big/Fancy Clock is SO Old School and waste of space - for ME.)

Something that shows the City, current temp/condition, and forecast for the day.

Something that I can swipe horizontally or swipe down to expand it, or slide it to show the 5 or 7 day forecast.

Something that I can click on the City to change cities (or change some other way) to my pre-selected cities.

I doubt there is one widget that can do this as I imagine you need to click through the full app to get all this functionality. But hopefully something close?

HD Widgets has several small toggles that can be configured. The stock Rings widget on my Razr would cover you as well but not sure if the Sense has that.

Go Weather EX. One problem, it's one of those clock+weather widgets. But it does almost everything you want.
1. Shows current city, temp,condition and forecast.
2. You can swipe up or down to expand it, since swiping changes cities to any one of your other predefined cities. You can tap to expand though.

You can use a 4x1 widget instead of 4x2, but it sort of may have reduced data shown.

I could live with the clock/weather combo was long as the clock is very small. Seems though if I'm interested in something compact that is scrollable/expandable, be rare that one with a clock in it would be optimal. But thanks!

You can get Rings using OneMoreClockWidget then selecting "Chrome Rings". It's a replica.

It's a replica but only on the face. You lose the functionality of spinning the circles to get increased functions. It looks good on the face but ends there. I tried it as I really like the look for the stock Rings widget but I'm running Nova now which does not support using the stock widget unfortunately so I had to choose. So now I'm just using a couple of the stock Nova weather widgets.

I use HD widgets. You can configure it how you want and only show weather without a clock.

But can you scroll, expand or collapse to go between "Today" and "Forecast" or different cities. I was quite disappointed in HD Widgets. Maybe because I'm on Sense 4.5 (aka Sense+) ? Or just a newbie. The HD widgets look nicer and all, but there is so much buzz about them and "Beautiful Widgets" I was surprised how few widget types there are. There was no calendar widget in HD widgets I could see. Everything is clock, weather, and useless stuff like Brightness when you are running an app like Power Toggles, don't really need most of that stuff. Maybe I'm missing something on those?

I use HD widgets. You can configure it how you want and only show weather without a clock.

There are standalone calendar, date or time widgets in HD Widgets. Also, on the larger widgets that have weather or time or date info you press on that area to get more info about the specific type of information. These are called Hotspots. So if you use a widget that has both date and weather on it, pressing on the widgets in those areas will launch whatever application you tell it to launch.

This is set in the HD Widget programs as follows. So, for instance on my phone I like the app aCalendar and that is what I want launched when I hit the date area on the widget I use. In HD Widget program I do the following:

Make sure you have the correct widget you are currently displaying selected (if you are using multiple widgets) then hit the three vertical dots in the upper right corner, then select Settings from the drop down menu. About halfway down just below the grey bar with Widgets on it select Hotspots / apps. From here you can enable or disable the Hotspots, and also select what programs are launched from these hotspots.

Regarding HD Widgets, I was mainly talking about lack of Calendar widget (which I'm discussing in another thread.) But since you mentioned there IS a Calendar widget in HD Widgets, might as well find out where it is.

I go into the app and it shows "Glass Gems" under instabbled, and then under available a Tablet Icon Pack, Colurorm LT Large Text Widgets, and Coulourform Widgets.

I click on Glass Gems and see the widget types listed across the top. It starts with Switch 1x1, then Weather 1x1 so I scroll that bar across and never see a "Calendar" widget listed. Don't see any sort of SMS widget. Etc. Etc. It's mostly clock/weather crap. I must not be using the app right.

Geez, looking at all these clock widgets I still can't believe this obsession with the clock is still going on after all these years since I had one of the first HTC smartphones and the flip clock was "all the rage." All these young people with good eyesight using these ultrabooks with super high resolution and tiny screens with tiny text, and they all still want a big clock on their lockscreen even though there's a clock in the upper right corner all the time!

So I'm guessing I am missing something regarding HD Widgets and finding the Calendar Widget?

Am starting to compare weather widgets now. Will get back on my opinion for anyone interested.

You were almost there! Go back into Glass Gems and select the very first one called Switch. Now go down to the bottom menu and select the switch icon and this will bring up a huge list of things to make thus a switch for, including calendar!

I missed this question. You can select a smaller weather widget (1x1 or 2x1) that when you select will expand to one of three full screen weather apps - Accuweather, Weatherbug, or Weather Underground. All three of these can be tailored for different cities and will show expanded forecasts.

Tried Weather Channel, Accuweather nad Go Weather Ex. Like looks of Go Weather so far. Problem is, the Go Weather widget doesn't show forecast, you have to click through to app. I've got my Widget Locker set at 6x6 grid. Workds great for most widgets, not so much spacing and gives me 6 docked icons. Some widgets format better than others in this grid.

Maybe have to go to one of the other ones. Looks like will dump clock/calendar for 3-5 day forecast. Will keep experimenting.

Well so far, Android Weather, has the best widget for me as it matches the Pure Calendar Agenda Widget, has current weather and forecast. No clock to clutter, use up space and has a 5 grid wide size widget which works great (have Widget Locker set to 6 x 6 grid)

But, if Go Weather EX has even just 3-day forecast widget, I'd go for that, but it doesn't. Looks good. I was excited as I was just going to use the Go Weather WallpaperHD app to make it so the wallpaper had the weather and I didn't need a widget but it's not compatible with Go Weather EX!

Im getting there (I like uncluttered look where I can see most of wallpaper as I will eventually change it to photo slide show)

Doesn't the HD weather widget get weather from the stock weather app, which gets it's weather from where? How reliable is it compared to Accuweather / The Weather Channel? Can it change location automatically like some of the other app widgets?

HDWidgets uses WeatherBug, AccuWeather or Weather Underground, of those I prefer Weather Underground.

So I assume somewhere there's a setting to choose the source?

Is there a setting to choose the source of the native weather app/widget on HTC Sense? If not, where does it come from?

Yes, in settings you can select one of those three. No choice for a 'default' whatever the phone uses though.
