I am having issues connecting my Sprint HTC Hero to my wife's BB 8350. I've paired and made both devices discoverable but they still won't connect. Can these devices connect to other phones or are they limited to headsets and PC's?

Any tips or troubleshoots would be greatly appreciated :D

Thanks a bunch...

They may pair up and see each other, but there is no protocol for them to transfer anything between them. This is the one and ONLY issue I have with the Hero... you cannot even send via BT a contact card (yours) to someone :(

To my knowledge the included BT profiles on the Hero are as follows:

GAP
SPP
HSP
HFP
A2DP
AVRCP
SDP

There is no OBEX (binary object exchange) for the Hero, the required profile is not included in the phone. Likewise for FTP or APP profiles which are really useful. I mean it's ridiculous I cannot share a picture or video I have taken except for e-mailing... Pretty much all you can do is if lucky obtain hook-up to handsfree and stereo headsets. Some of the 2.x ROM's supposedly have a few of the profiles included allowing greater flexibility on the issue but I am not sure which ROM's have what, so you would have to do you're own homework to find out.

(I had asked several times over at XDA on the Damageless ROM about BT OBEX, FTP, APP and got no reply, so make your own conclusions about that.) Rooting will allow much more flexibility with this issue, I'm sure some of the ROM's have increased BT functionality, I'm just not sure what. If you're rooted there are some app's available as well for this. Anyway...

I have been able to send stuff (files) to my Vista laptop via BT but not in the other direction which confounds me even more... lol... hope that helps some.

This is true but it would still show that they were paired whether they had anything to transfer or not. To the OP, if the issue is simply not being able to transfer something have you tried any of the Bluetooth file transfers in the app store? I experienced I couldn't send or recieve anything at all when I paired with my buddies diamond, but it still told me I was connected to it.

I do know (at least on DC2.05) that you can receive a contact card via bluetooth, did that last night. Not sure about sending.

What are these apps that help with BT file transfers (and do any of them actually work)? I've been trying to figure out how to send an audio file via BT to a friends phone for a few days, usually using Astro. He's reasonably sure he'd be able to receive it, but it never sends. It attempts to, but doesn't ever successfully send. Having never messed with BT before, I figured I was doing something wrong...but now I'm not so sure. Both were discoverable, and it said "paired but not connected" under the name of his phone on my Hero.

This one supposedly works... just not on the HERO :(

I know some of the ROM's claim they can do it, but like I said, I have asked what BT profiles are included in their ROM's and I have not received answers. Without those profiles and drivers on both devices trying to transfer anything, well, it just won't work.

I said I was able to send to me laptop (Vista) but not the other direction (files) which is interesting. It makes me wonder if I ROOT (haven't yet) and have Superuser permission would it allow the phone then to receive a file? Anyway...

:)
