Jelly Bean firmware unofficial release

Because of this

It should not be over heating on Android 4.0.3 let alone 4.1.2.

That means that it should not be overheating on either of them!

So i think i'm gonna upgrade to that leaked 4.1.2 but should i do factory reset afterwards?

I would always recommend doing a Factory rest before switching platforms as unless you do you will never know if you have a corrupt update via Kies or, more particularly, OTA, Over The Air, or if you have a bad download and upgrade via Odin. It can happen. It also means that when I re-install my app's that they are set up for the new platform and are compatible. Not all app's are JB compatible on the Play Store. This can cause problems as stated in my earlier link.

The choice... is yours! ;)

But what other options i have to fix the heating problem? Downgrading to GB? Or should i try factory reset now?

Taken from the earlier link I posted for you...

the alternatives are:-

1. Put up with your phone the way that it is on ICS.

2. Take it to a Samsung Service Point and get them to re-flash it for you... in which case you will lose everything anyway.

3. Re-install your old Gingerbread firmware using Odin and lose everything.

The choice, as they say... is yours.

Congratulations upd103! :congrats:

I must say that, IMHO, the jump from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich is nothing when compared to the leap to Jelly Bean.

So many new features and app's come bundled with it. I had to start re-learning my phone all over again. The Power Saving menu is awesome. The screen on whilst you are looking at it is good. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth have been improved. GPS is accurate to 3m... indoors for me! The new TouchWiz with Favourite Contacts and Favourite App's widgets is a big improvement. Even the modem on this is giving me a good, strong signal. Scrolling and menus are both smooth and fast I'm finding. The list goes on.

The plus point for SGSII users is that it is the Android 4.1.2 version which is a later version than both the Galaxy S3 and and Galaxy Note 2 are currently on.

I was initially prepared to give this pre-release version of Jelly Bean a quick look and wait for the official release, however, after flashing it, there is no way I am going back to ICS now! The developers seem to agree with me too as they consider this a stable firmware for development and there has been a number of custom ROM's based on this JB release, one of which I am using now.

So good is this release that I feel it is only necessary for Samsung to obtain the permissions of the various countries Telecommunications authorities and receive the amended versions, with, "bloatware", back from carriers and they will be starting to roll this out... hopefully within their, "Provisional Date", of November.

Sorry for the delayed response sir. Been moving around the country the last couple of days. Just so you know, Afghanistan is not the easiest place to move around either. ha ha

Yes, I'm loving JB. I did get caught with my pants down though and forgot to re-check the "Download updates only over Wi-Fi" feature. Ate up quite a few units before I realized what had happened, but that's operator error. :D I don't think I will get the opportunity to experience all of the great features until I get back to the states though.

I'm a little apprehensive. This is my first true unlocked phone and I'm not sure if I'm going to have to download the AT&T APN settings from somewhere when I get back, or if the AT&T SIM card will hook me up automatically. Guess it's something I will have to research within the next 17 days.

BTW, 7 months straight is along time away from the wife. :D

hi

quick question, is the XXLJS an official kernal or from a developer?

This is official and stock kernel, as it comes with stock ROM.

Ive rooted but still on GB (i know ) i want to use this kernal but not sure what i need to download.

Do you mean you want to flash only the kernel from this JB ROM ? Doing so will end up with a bricked or boot loops.

i want to update this with JB but not sure what i need, can anyone help?

First make a backup and remove any lagfix if you have applied. Next download the full firmware and flash through Odin.

No such issue here as well- did you perform a factory data reset after flashing the JB ?

I performed a factory reset BEFORE installing JB. I thought that was all that was necessary. So a factory reset is necessary AFTER installation of new firmware!? Dont quite understand that

Well, ive got my phone up and running now just as I like it so guess ive got to live with this problem unless I can find the time. Any other way to deal with this without going back to factory data reset?

hi, if i do this will i lose all my data, ie/ photos, videos, contacts? if so how do i prevent it? can i back it up through kies then restore after ive updaed to jellybean? thanks, will.

You won't lose anything on the SD card, but things like texts, etc. you will because you should do a factory reset first. If you use gmail the contacts will re-sync.

Always take a copy of as much as you can though.

I used titanium backup and backed everything off. Then manually installed the apps and restored just the app data. Worked a treat.
