Help Wireless Tethering

I just picked up my new DNA and like it so far. However, I had been using SVTP to wirelessly tether my Galaxy Nexus to my laptop. I am in a secure facility that has no wireless networks and I can't connect my personal laptop to their network even though I'm using it for work purposes. So, the wireless tethering was a god send. However, now I'm trying to wireless tether using the DNA and I keep getting the message that I have to subscribe and to call Customer Service. (I thought they got slapped by the FCC for doing that.) I even tried FoxFi50 and it gives me the same message.

Does anyone know what's going on or how I can get around this? I have unlimited data so that's not the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried the embedded Hotspot app on the phone yet? I am on the new tiered plan, but at first my SVTP didn't work as well - though I didn't get the message you did. I used the embedded mobile hotspot - which was more cumbersome, many more clicks, and then went back to SVTP and it worked. It could have nothing to do with your issue, but it might be worth a shot ...

If you are on a 'capped' data plan then the embedded hotspot works fine. If you are on an unlimited data plan then you HAVE to get the subscription.

It really is that simple

I finally had to give in and added the Mobile Hotspot through the VZW website. It still wouldn't work. The laptop said it was connected to my phone's SSID and the phone showed one user connected but neither email nor browsers could connect with the internet.

I called tech support and they are absolutely baffled. They had to put in a ticket to see if they can find out why it won't work. Has anyone else had the same issue with Wi-Fi tethering with the DNA?

Interesting. I never had that issue on the Gnex as I recall. Oh well, sorry about that, thought it was worth a shot.

Is this a glitch with the GNex then cause I have been using it since the day I got mine and I still have unlimited data.

I have seen some phones do this as a promotion. 'Free Hotspot' for a limited time or something of that nature. Who knows.... :)

Thank you but I tried 1 click tether and it tells me my phone doesn't support Wi-FI Tethering. So, now I have no idea what's going on and tech support still hasn't called me back.

Tried FoxFi day one and same thing (Doesn't work). But if I remember correctly it never worked on the new phone I would get at first. We have to wait till they update it (if they ever do).

foxfi has a site which is out dated which tells you which phone and version you can use the app. i had the galaxy s3 and now the note 2-seems like samsung phones work with foxfi-I have the paid version $7(one time fee and no recurring monthly charge) and its definitely worth it. just like any other app in the Play store, it depends which phone you have and it may or may not be compatible. I have the Verizon unlimited data plan and average about 8-12gb per month. GREAT APP. I connect my laptop and use my slingbox with barely any hiccups with the live streaming. i bought the DNA and really wanted to keep it but ended up selling it because of FOXFI. FCC allows apps like foxfi to be used but the developers have to build it for the phone. Maybe Foxfi will make a version that works with the DNA and other models. You can always goggle it to see if your phone works with FOXFI and there is always a person out there who tried it and will know. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Also having the issue with not being allowed to use tethering apps. On the 2GB plan, so tethering should be included. The only app I was able to get to work was the free version of one of the apps on the market that limited me to 5 minutes or so of tethering and I'd have to restart the app. Sorry but I don't remember which I used since I installed a dozen apps in a row trying to get it to work.
Guess I'll call VZ.

Please note... this will only work if you still have the unl 29.99 plan... AND WHO HAVE A 4G DEVICE Look on your bill to verify...
I have had the unl plan for over foUR years.... when 4g came out back when the Thunderbolt came out in march 2011 they added also a 30$ add-on due to fcc regulations... This option is shown on your VZmobile app on your phone under change features... and also on Verizon wireless.com account... It will say 4g Mobile hotspot

For those of you who knew about it and have been using can attest to it.. iF not look for your self...

WHEN YOU ADD OR TAKE OFF SERVICE THROUGH ON-PHONE APP OR THROUGH MYVERIZON ONLINE IT GIVES YOU THE SACRED OF OPTION OF BACKDATING...

THIS MEANS YOU CAN TAKE THE PLAN OFF AS IF IT HAD NEVER BEEN ADDED SINCE THE BEGINNING OF YOUR BILLING CYCLE.... I CAME UPON THIS BY ACCIDENT... BUT RECEIVED A -$30 ON MY NEXT BILL EVEN THOUGH I HAD USED OVER 30 GB THAT MONTH... INCLUDING HOTSPOT...

I THEN RE-ADDED AND FOR KICKS AND GIGGLES TRIED IT THE NEXT MONTH AND THE NEXT... BUT ADDING ONLY ON THE FIRST DAY OF MY BILLING CYCLE AND ALWAYS TAKING OFF (BACKDATING ONLY) ON THE LAST DAY OF MY CYCLE...

BY DOING THIS I HAD THE BENEFITS OF HOTSPOT UNL ON MY NONUNLOCKABLE BOOT LOADER HTC DNA AND ONLY USING STOCK HOTSPOT APP...

I HAVE DONE IT FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS NOW ...

So you've been paying an extra $30 per month since 2011 for something that you haven't used?

I've been on unlimited data for as long as I can remember and have never been hit with an additional $30 charge. But good for you for scamming the system. I doubt it will work for many people.

in layman's terms ... once again... I put the $30 on my account when the bill has already cycled and printed... by taking it off by backdating at the end of my cycle.... takes the charge off the next months bill which would regularly be prorated. however I still have used the tethering for the whole month. I am never charged the $30 4g unlimited mobile hotspot on my bill.

take a look at your account online and see for yourself... there should be no reason why Verizon accounts online or through mobile app should be different.

if and only if you have the 29.99 unlimited data any 4g device.
