I just picked up a used G1 and will soon be added to my boyfriend's t-mobile account. Primarly on this forum to find out about T9 apps and even (gasp!) look into programming a T9 app.

This would mean of course that I first have to learn something about programming. My boyfriend thinks I could create an app in a few months of on and off weekend learning. He may be over rating my intelligence. Or not. We shall see.

I'm an LG user, so the T9 would be based on that phone (0) for next etc. Any adivce, comments, discouragement... (cause I think that's crazy) or encouragement welcome.

Welcome to the AF forums and enjoy your visits !!

if by T9 you are referring to a number pad type text input .... there are a number of keyboards replacement apps already in the market ...

cant image why anyone would still want to use them anymore with the virtual keyboards ... and the G1 having a full physical key board ...

but just search the Market for T9 keyboard ...

Thanks for the "Welcomes". I did find an T9 app. It works great and I use it for everything. I like having my other hand free to drink coffee or whatever ;-)

"(Even Better) NumberPad Keyboard" by Matt F. It learns, it has a "next" button and other customizable functions. ABC and 123 mode are easy to toggle.

There are a few little things, but Matt F is continuing to do updates (just got one today!) I'm really glad I found it. I think it was just $2-3 for the app.

You do have to go into settings to enable. Settings> Locale & Text > NumberPad Keyboard Settings > Check T9 style texting.
