Is Verizon telling the truth about an update to fix the VZ reception issue?

So I have the s3 with Verizon and am very discouraged with the dropped calls that I never had the the Motorola maxx. I am due for an upgrade, so I tried the Note 2. INCREDIBLE reception! But that is one big phone!

I called VZ today. They told me they are aware of the s3 reception issues and there will be an update within a month to fix it. Is the VZ BS or the truth? I was told by them the Note 2 has a different antennae setup, thus the better reception. Will a software update or JB actually solve the reception issue?

As an aside, I lost my unlimited data when I upgraded as well. Ugh.

There *are* new radios with the leaked JB updates so there could be some truth to that. There has been 3 different builds leaked already so we should be getting close. Very close.

I had the same reception issues with my s3 on the Sprint network. A software updated did come along and correct the problem. It seems every 4 g lte phone released so far has had these reception issues, and was later corrected with a maintenance update.

How does a software update allow a new radio?

The radios are digital Frequencies can be tweaked.

There will likely be some tweaks with the update that may help some...however its not likely that the S3 will ever get the same level of reception as your Moto...they make the best hardware (especially in terms of radios) in the business...

every phone reacts to radios differently...install it yourself and find out...its the only way to know

I found with the note 2 that my dbm was worse than the s3,but the signal and reception was much better. I guess the call quality is what really matters. For those who updated to jb, did the call quality improve in your poor reception or dead zones?

so I did the S3 update and no improvement with my reception. Dead areas with s3 but the note 2 works well there. Very disappointing. What is weird is the dbm are worse with the note compared to the s3, but the reception is way better.

Even worse friend at work has same phone on sprint we had phones in same location exactly at work I had no service and no internet and he had 3 bars and full 3 G internet from sprint. I think I screwed up going with verizon and this phone.

The comparison between yours and the sprint phone is just a test of carrier coverage not the phone...hardware wise your phone is the same...

There were two dead spots in town that I am now getting 4g since the JB update. It's as if a new router went up to cover the dark side of the hill.

Btw, overall I was getting good reception before the update. Now it seems it is even better.

As another point of reference, at my home I went from -119dbm to -92dbm after updating my Verizon Samsung S3 32gb from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1.

I never had any issues with reception before or after the JB update on the S3.

I have to go outside to use the phone as a phone. I have good signal indoors, but cannot understand the other person due to cutting out and outright dropping calls. This was before and after JB update.

Yep, that's Verizon for you. I switched to Sprint. I wouldn't trust anything Verizon says. Ever.
