As a noob myself, I'm finding it hard to get answers without muddling up the threads where the devs and senior members are working so hard at more advanced issues. If you have noob questions, no matter how trivial, post them here. I know they will help me, and hopefully others. And who knows, maybe the bigshots will drop in every now and then to offer advice.
Currently running rooted LG Spectrum ICS OTA

First Question: Anyone install the emoji plugin for GoLauncher and sees only Chinese symbols on screen when using emoticons in text? I followed market directions EXACTLY to install twice...

I was reading the instructions on flashing Eclipse, starting from stock V7:
Get stock ICS ->
run pwnage tool which roots, installs CWM recovery,
and unlocks boot loader (all in one pass)
-> boot into CWM, wipe data and install eclipse A3 -> reboot phone.

When you say... "boot into CWM", do you mean to use ROM Manager to do this by clicking on "reboot into recovery"

Edit: Sorry, I know this should have gone to the "all things root" section. If I haven't gotten a reply by this evening, I'lll repost there.

Correct, that is really the only function of rom manager you want to use on this phone.

There are better options than ROM Manager for that, from my experience you're better off without even installing that app;). I use Titanium Backup (option to reboot to recovery in menu) or there's Quick Boot, Hot Reboot, etc.

Follow this exactly. It will update you to the new radio files and unbrick you at the same time. Good luck.

Rom toolbox has a shortcut option called rebooter that lets you reboot the device, the rom or into recovery. It's all I ever use.

I've used that shortcut for sometime myself mrB. Definitely a nice little feature. Only thing that i hate about it is sometimes it likes to open rom toolbox with it. But it's not that big of a deal but I would prefer that it would just open the reboot menu and never actually open rom toolbox as well.

I've been working with the LG Spectrum the last week or so, trying to activate the phone with Iusacell (a cellphone carrier in Mexico). The network is so old that they only offer EVDO as maximum internet connection speed. I also had to rearrange my MEID/ESN to be able to register the device with them.

At last I got Voice working, but I still cant get neither SMS nor 3g running.

I've seen that to make the Spectrum work with 3g on pageplus or cricket, after configuring with QPST all the connection parameters, you need to use LG Android Data Assistant to enable data in NV mode. Ive installed this app but cant seem to find this option available. Also an app called Android Messaging thats used to be able to receive SMS/MMS for cricket doesnt work.

so my NOOB question is:

help! i updated my phone (LG Spectrum) the other day, and now i can't see my photos when i plug the phone into the computer with my USB. i used to be able to just plug it in and all my photo folders would appear on the computer. now i can't find them at ALL! is this some bug? they're still on the phone, i just can't find them on the computer to transfer them over.

(ps - i HATE the way this new update looks.) :(

thanks. i figured it out. with the way this new update looks you can't tell there are more options way down at the bottom of the page sometimes. (like i said - i HATE the way this new system looks!) so all i had to do was go to settings/connectivity/ and change it from 'internet' to 'mass storage'. pity i didn't 'see' that there was more stuff in the settings. :-/

(rebooting while connected to USB did nothing.)

I assumed you were having the normal bug - USB connection not registering for anything more than slow charge. If you do get that then reboot :)

Another noob question from the eternal noob (I DO actually research these questions on the net first buy I always seem to get more straight forward answers from you guys. Thanx)
Q: When discussing the internal cell phone workings and you refer to the "radio", what exactly are you talking about?

Also, anyone got a link to the place on this forum where the emoticon codes are listed. I only know a couple of them by heart but I'd like the complete list. I'm talking about the ones where you put a certain word or phrase inside the the colons like this one... :ditto:
