How's the battery life?

It's a galaxy note II that I own. It's interesting what you are saying about the first 50% dropping faster than the last 50%. By not using it much I get it down to about 30% by the end of the day - I haven't taken it below this level yet.

What's the total amount of time that you last?

And I noticed that you mentioned that you have work emails pushed to your phone. I can tell you right away, that alone is a battery hog. I don't acheive the 24 hour+ numbers that everybody else does, but I have a lot of background sync/push emails/sync emails going in the background on my phone, and I get anywhere from 12-17 hours of use consistently.

And if you haven't let it go below 30%, then you really haven't used the battery to its full capabilities. Just to give you an example, my phone has dropped 10% from 30>20...in the past 3 hours!...That's with a ton of push emails coming from work, as well as twitter text message notifications for people that I follow that I want to be aware posted something right away. Today hasn't been a very good example because I've had extremely heavy use compared to normal (so I'm right around 11 hours of battery use), but you still should be able to get to 12 hours (even with a lot of background sync and email pushes).

From looking at this screenshot, how many things do you have Facebook sync'd for, as far as notifications are concerned? That looks like really heavy use for Facebook.

My apologies for the large images. As a side question - is this gsam battery monitor app also supposed to help battery life somehow, or just monitor what's happening?

No...GSam is a battery hog! I tried it for a few days, to see more specifically what apps might be causing drain (just to get a few more hours out of the battery), but I automatically uninstalled, once I saw it jumping up on the list for % of use.

It must have been someone else mentioning the work emails - I have that option turned off. You're right about me needing to run it lower to really test it out though. I'll be interested to see how the battery behaves at a lower level.

I have sync turned off for facebook, but in the app I have it set to notify when I'm tagged in a post or mentioned in a comment. For some reason I've been unable to receive notifications for facebook or twitter (I'm still trying to figure out how to get notifications working and the difference between syncing and notifications - (noob)) Either way the lack of notifications received indicates to me that this probably isn't causing the drain.

Would the battery monitor show usage from the phone searching for a 4G network where it doesn't exist? I'm wondering if the phone searching for 4G is an issue.

I'm on AT&T, I had the same issue. About a week ago I saw my battery life cut in half. I thought it was an app that I had just installed, so I removed it and saw no improvement. A dug a little deeper, & found my problem.

Check your battery life manager, mine was being killed by AT&T Locker. I removed the update and back to all day battery life :D

Hope this helps :)

AT&T Locker with the update was killing my battery as well...reverted back and all fixed again..

Wow! Your apps are using twice as much as your screen?!? I don't use Facebook, and that seems to be part of your problem. Maybe others can chime in here, but you appear to have an app problem. You can see that what I posted after two days of use showed that the screen is my biggest battery drain by far, and I only had about 3 hours of screen time over the two days.

Something from the Facebook app is definitely draining battery way more than it should, because 19.7% is extremely high, unless you were sitting on your phone using the app for a couple hours, that you hadn't mentioned. And it's strange, considering you don't have sync on.

I'd suggest going into the Facebook app and checking all the settings to make sure that you only have the ones indicated that are most important for you.

The only odd thing I could find in facebook was that there was an app installed called Samsung Galaxy Note II. I've uninstalled the app, as I couldn't find any apparent use for it. I'll be interested to see if it makes a difference.

In your original post you mentioned you bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 4G. Do you have the original Note or the Note 2? If you have the original Note the battery life isn't that great on it from what I've heard. The Note 2 on the other hand has great battery life.

Sorry I should have made that clearer - it's the Note 2 that I own, which makes the battery issue surprising to me considering all the great reviews I've read (including those from people in this thread).

Lol. Did you not see the Gsam ' battery hog 'is eating away .3% in his screenie. Please. You're not helping.

Couple of other things. On the drop down menu in the upper right choose number of times the phone is awaken and the length of time it is kept open. You'll see the apps responsible. I also see there are some really dead areas of phone signal. If you are using your phone alot during these periods your battery will get sapped. But I think your closing in on an answer. That Facebook is way too high. Is it a deleteable app? Just to see what happens. Anyway check those wake stays. Also you can DL CPU Spy and see how much time is spent in deep sleep. Probably very little.

Well, I'll be. That's what I get for skimming. Thanks for pointing that out. I put in a backorder request. They ask to give them two weeks to get in back in stock. I'm going to hold on to my Anker order in the meantime. I figure three batteries and two chargers for $45 is a good enough deal that I can order them all. :)

Edit: Also, I took my phone off the charger this morning and turned off wifi. Let's see how long this thing lasts on Sprint LTE/3G.

Mark my words, you're only going to need one spare battery. 3 is overkill for this phone.

Do it. The note 2 is much better. Another upside to the note 2 is the battery can be removed so you can always have a spare. When you register your device with Samsung they send you a 50% off code good towards official Samsung phone accessories (discount can be used on up to 10 accessories). With that 50% off code you can get a battery charging kit (dock with slot in the back to charge an extra battery and an original galaxy note 2 spare battery) for $25. So after buying the note 2 charging kit you just doubled your phones battery life and got yourself a dock to sit your phone in at night time all for $25.

Thanks for the tip, I did not know that. Pretty sweet deal.

My battery life (verizon) is incredible. I've never been able to use an Android phone like this before, even with extended batteries. I've kept screen around 50% when I could but I did that with past phones too. Today I'm going to go all day at 90% and see how it does.

I'm getting around 6hr screen time each day on full charge. Well, 4 to 4.5hr or so by the time I go to bed, but I have 25 to 30% battery left each day so far. It's been great.. It's easily double, even triple what I was getting with my GNexus. (btw my day starts at 5:15am, ends sometime between 10 and midnight, usually)

I wish yours was doing better. :(

http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-note-2/629535-hows-battery-life-5.html#post5269552 <-- I used it a bit less on that run than I am now day to day. So it lasted longer then, but with less screen life, I'm betting.

I am also experiencing great battery life! I run Pandora from 4G for 6-7 hours a day and txt a ton with some phone calls in the mix and I think I have only once gotten to below 50% mark.

Now I have always just placed the phone on charge over night so I am not trying to get 2 days out of a single charge but compared to my other two 4G phones (Bionic & Rezound) this staying above 50% with that much Pandora streaming is a good sign.

My S3 got slightly less life than the S3, I never went dead but it was always below 40% at the end of the day.

yea sorry to hear about your battery issues. for me personally, it is a truly great feeling to be able to put your phone to charge at night with about 40% left of battery with medium to heavy use all day (18 hours total with 12 of those hours on LTE and 5 hours screen time). im still getting used to not having to carry a charger everywhere i go!

Dude...relax. I'm just saying that in my experience GSam was a battery hog. The OP might not have had it installed for that long to really start working.

When I had it installed it was close to 15%! So, if that doesn't help, I don't know what would.

Read around. There have been MANY reports about GSam being very useful, but also draining more battery than wanted for the purposes that it serves.
