How do I change my app icon?

Yeah.... I know. It sounds easy. But you haven't heard the story....

.... At one point, I noticed an app icon on my home screen called "Fast Dialer". I had not knowingly installed that program. I was not sure where it came from, because nothing came up when I hit the menu button, and I could not find anything identifying it. But, I really liked the look of this dialer, and wanted to keep it. I saw that if I click "History" and a person's name, the title "360 guards" shows at the top. So I can confirm it came from the app "360 Guards". Now the problem....

I want to change its icon. I'm using ADW launcher, but the app does not show up in ADW, nor Better Cut, nor the app drawer, nor "Manage Apps" in Settings. It's parent, "360 Guards" does show up in the app drawer. But you open it up, it's not a dialer -- it's a traffic monitor, battery saver and a few other things.

I just want to change the icon, why is that so hard?!:thinking::eek::smokingsomb:

Try a long press of the icon. If a menu appears choose edit.

I did say it wasn't gonna be easy.... In ADW, that just gets you a trash bin, or an "info" option. At least the info option confirms that it belongs to 360 Guards. But the 360 Guards icon in the app drawer opens the data monitor program.

All I know is, it's a shortcut (widget?) created by "360 Guards". I went into the program, I don't even know how to recreate the icon to this dialer!

I thought of doing that, but I have not been able to find the app anywhere on Google. The one you pointed to is not the same app. I also just realized I have no way to back up the dialer, if I don't know what program it is, or how it got created....

I can only find one reference on the net to this dialer from Jan. (I mean, other than my own thread here!). So at least I'm know I'm not dreaming it. On that page, the guy who developed 360 Guards had listed the million things it can do... and the dialer wasn't one of them. Then a forumer responds to ask the developer if Fast Dialer in 360 Guards is available as a seperate app, that he can download. No response! End of thread.

Update: And now, this may all be moot.... I "flung" the dialer icon up to "info", to see if I can trace where it is on my phone. After getting an info reading from ADW (which only said it was 360 Guards), the icon was no longer replaced back on the dock! So I have no way of knowing how to get back this screwy dialer app!

...And that's the story of how I lost the best dialer app I've ever seen on Android....:(

Here's an even greater mystery for your files... It's the next day, now. I just looked down at my desktop. The Fast Dialer icon is back on my dock. Shifted one place, yes, but it's back there. I did not put it there, and the "360 Guards" app was not even set to active. (insert twilight zone soundtrack).

Oh. And the icon has a missed call notification bubble. That means something recognized it. (I set "360 Guards" in my bubble notification program, not even thinking this would work, since it's not a dialer app!).

In case I lose it again, and just to confirm I'm not imaging it, this is the elusive dialer program:

For those lost souls seeking closure on this, and I'm sure there are hundreds of you, here it is:

I finally figured out where the heck this dialer come from (no thanks to the app's translator, who was only willing to tell me I'm using the old version... which I'm not!).

As soon as you install "360 Guards", it creates this icon on your desktop called "Fast Dialer". So one might wonder where it came from, because 360 Guards is mainly a security program, and has absolutely no relation to contacts and dialing apps. Nor does it warn you its going to create a dialer shortcut for you. Now here's what I missed... deep deep within the program, and its 500 settings, there is a box named "Createdspeed dial icons in desk". Which creates the Fast Dialer shortcut. But because it is a shortcut created within an app, and not an app itself, there is no way to change its icon, as far as I know. (For this reason, I have decided to abandon the dialer, good as it is. As it breaks my icon theme....).

Say goodnight, Gracie...
