I thought I'd start a special thread for art and calligraphy done with the S-Pen but Phases beat me to it and moved my effort here. (Dang him. I'll have to write his name in cacography. ;-) ). The idea I had for the thread is to provide a space for the following:
* Show drawing and writing skills with the S-Pen
* Show experimental work, play, doodles, etc.
* Share tips and tricks for using the S-Pen in this way
* Share relevant apps
* Discuss issues related to pens and technology in general
* (Suggestions for other criteria welcome)

Personally, I'm a calligrapher and interested in writing in general. My own introduction to the electronic stylus was a bad experience because my S-Pen malfunctioned (see this thread) but it's fixed now and I'm getting into it. I have a "thing" for writing people's names and have had some fun with that (see the aforementioned thread).

The experience of moving beyond paper, ink and other more sensual tools and materials to this one is interesting and controversial. Questions are raised about the value of this kind of work, the skills required, authenticity, artistic limitations, etc. I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts on issues like this.

I have a few apps I'm beginning to explore and would like to hear other people's recommendations and see what they've managed to do with them. I am yet to find an app with a "pen" that simulates a broad edged pen or pointed script pen (though some brushes come close to the latter).

I'm a calligrapher in the Western tradition but I'd be very keen to see what calligraphers from other traditions are doing with the S-Pen.

To kick off, here are some of my own experiments using an app which provides very satisfying pressure response to the pen. These were done after quite a few hours of trying to master the pen and the letter forms it lends itself to - still lots of practice needed!

You have some nice skills! My favorite app for writing is Zen Brush. To me, it's made for calligraphy writing. Give it a try if you haven't already and let me know what you think. If you like that one, I know of a few more like TVpaint, but you have to show load it directly from the website. It's one of the most professional drawing applications that you're going to find. Many, many options and features to expert with!

The next thing I'd like to figure out with the Note II is how to record my calligraphy in one of these apps as I do it.

I don't know how practical this is but there's an app that requires root (can't remember the name) that records the screen. I remember using it for fun a while ago and it worked great.

Edit: and just like that i found it. 'Screencast video recorder '

saw it at costco with one of the samsung galaxy tablets...blew me away. But then i remembered I have found it difficult to find a good drawing/painting app that works with android, so I think why would I spend 500 or 600 for a tablet when there are only very limited apps out there...unless I'm missing something.

I've tried a number of them and they either don't save properly or they only save in tiny format or they only save when I do a very complex song and dance. At least with my device (Asus transformer 101). I'm not saying I can't make art in it, but it's not easy so I don't bother right now.

Does the S pen work with any smart device?

I'm an artist and I've been having a heck of a time finding a good painting/drawing apps that work with android.

what are you using to paint with, app wise? draw? caligraphy? I have standard styluses, but I'd LOVE an s pen.

Help.
