Screen slow to turn on?

Noticed that when the screen is off, pushing the power button, it takes a good 3 seconds for the screen to turn on and show the lockscreen. Is this normal on this phone? Any way to speed it up?

I'm having the same thing happen, it doesn't bother me too much. The only way to change it is by flashing another ROM when they become available.

Mine is pretty instant, but I'm not using any security

Mine is instant too.. but I am using a draw pattern security screen. However, twice now since having the phone, the screen refused to turn on at all and I had to battery pull.

Yeah, if this isn't fixed soon, the phone is going back. This wake delay makes the phone REALLY annoying to use.

Unfortunately the xda thread about this issue on the Epic Touch 4G offers no help either. Some people say removing the SD card helps, but with the card in or out makes no difference on my device.

Yeah, read around a bit more, and it's not a fixable problem. The phone is designed to go into deep sleep mode after the screen is off for a few seconds, so when you hit the power button, the CPU needs to wake up, causing the delay. You can switch the power button to a soft power off, which solves the problem, but cuts your battery time in half

So phone is factory reset and I'm calling in the RMA now. I'm not paying $300 for a phone that doesn't even turn on when I push the power button! Seems the glaring problems with Android phones still haven't been worked out yet, you'd assume ONE of the manufacturers would figure out how to make a problem free phone by now.

Oh well, it was a fun day while I had the phone.

Same here. Personally, I don't feel this minor issue is worth returning the phone. It is still a dynamite phone! For me, the screen always turns on immediately.
But.. twice now, the phone has just refused to turn back on at all requiring a battery pull. I'm not sure the cause, but it may be related to Agat's custom recovery and kernel. I'll see if it is fixed once a new kernel and CWM are built for the phone.
I have never owned a phone that hasn't occasionally needed a battery pull, but I hope it doesn't persist. I agree, it is annoying.

That's actually cosidered a problem with your device, if the phone is not oging into deep sleep mode you have a problem with the wake lock function. Staring at a blakc screen for 3 seconds after you push the power button is an actual feature of the device.

Glad you like it. Like I said, for $300, I want a phone that turns on when I push the power button, not one that thinks about it a while first.

If a ROM comes out that fixes the issue, I'll buy the phone again then.

Happened to me yesterday. Had the phone for about 4 days now, and that happened one time. No idea why.

As for the delay, I have it too, but my wife has the boost mobile s2, and it starts up faster for some reason. Same phone. Go figure.

Just search Quadrant in the play store and it should be the first choice. Afterwards just run the app and it will run the tests and give you a number.

Cool. I think I already have that one on my wifes phone so I'll run it on both and report back tomorrow. She's at work right now.

Ok, I ran the full benchmark test on both phones, and here's what I came up with....

Looks like they are about the same. They are the same phone so there is no surprise there. I think your wife's might be a bit slower because she probably has more apps/data on it. I think the screen on delay is present on all phones with ICS because I've even read that people in the Sprint version have the delay.

I'm definitely the one with more apps and data. Hers is just a phone as far as how she uses it. she is using stock launcher and I use go launcher but don't think that makes a difference. I'll do it again after a fresh power up on both just for sng's
