Help Battery Saving and Background Data

I just recently bought a Motorola Droid, and I was pretty shocked at how quickly the battery ran out of juice. I looked around on the net and found a tip that said to turn off the Background Data option, so I did that, but I find this to be a very convenient feature. I'm just wondering if there's some sort of app or widget that will let me quickly toggle the Background Data option on and off for a quick sync to push all of my stuff in whenever I want it. That would be amazing. Thanks!

Hi jtsoup412! :) Welcome to the forums.

There is a widget already built into the Droid which is called 'Power Control' This gives you a great widget that lets you easily toggle those battery hogging settings on and off. It includes Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, Data, and Screen brightness. You can access it by long tapping your home screen > Widgets > "Power Control."

Is this what you're looking for? :)

It could possibly be what I'm looking for. As soon as I tap the button, turning on Background Data from the widget, will all my stuff sync immediately? Or will it operate on a schedule? I'm looking for something that will instantly push and sync all of my stuff with the touch of a button, basically.

I'd assume it does... I'm not entirely sure, though. I always keep mine turned on, but I use JuiceDefender (Free) to save my battery hours. It turns the data off and turns it on for x amount of minutes every x minutes. I think the default is "Turn data on for 3 minutes every 15 minutes" which really saves battery. You can buy the full version where you can customize is more.... There's also a widget that tells you how much battery life is left. For example, my phone says there is 12hrs. and 21minutes left.

If you go under settings> Wreless & Networks>Mobile networks> uncheck data enable.

this will turn off the 3G internet and make the battery last a lot longer. I just wish there was a widget you could use to toggle back and forth. Plus any ads on games wont show up on the games while the data is disabled.

Hello and thanks for this answer. I have used this for a while but there is one button on it that you called Data that is not data. It is actually a symbol for Sync. I think all it does is run the sync of data.
I think it is subsumed by background data but is not background data.

Is there not an android manual that explains this precisely?

I am looking for a widget that will let me create switches and link them to any setting I want. E.g. a button to change the setting Settings > Display > Auto-rotate screen.
Do any of you know of such a widget?
