Am I just really unlucky??

Rezound #1: New device. Worked well for ~5 months. Proximity sensor began to slowly degrade until I couldn't activate my screen during a call without it immediately shutting off. Called in for a replacement.

Rezound #2: "Certified Like New": Same issue as #1, but occurred after only 2 months. Proximity sensor app confirms that the sensor continuously thinks that something is directly on top of the sensor when nothing is actually present. No screen protector installed. Called in for replacement.

Rezound #3: "Certified Like New": Spent the time transferring everything and configuring the phone only to find shortly thereafter that it has the well documented head phone issue where only static and random sounds come out of one of the headphones (confirmed on multiple sets of headphones). I spend a lot of time on conference calls with a headset, so this definitely won't work. Good thing I've got Verizon on speed dial....

Rezound #4: "Certified Like New": This one is the best. I received this phone today after lecturing some poor Verizon rep earlier this week about sending me yet another "certified" replacement which clearly is not certified at all. The most recent headphone issue has been extremely well documented in the press since this phone was first released. Sending me a device a year later with the same issue is simply not acceptable and indicates to me that the "100 point inspection" is completely worthless. I guess they heard me loud and clear because they sent me my most recent refurb with a screen that's hardly intact and the same proximity sensor issues I had with #1 and 2. The screen presses in to the housing only to slowly rise back out into the position shown below. As a result of this, the proximity sensor picks up the screen and won't allow me to operate the screen during calls. I couldn't even get the screen to stay on long enough to hit "0" a few times to talk with a verizon rep. I haven't even bothered checking the headphones, but that's probably not necessary. I've never received such a jacked up phone from Verizon before.

The icing on the cake: After spending 20 minutes this evening explaining to my most recent happy helper that I'm no longer interested in anything with the terms "certified" or "like" in the title, I was told to stand by while they get HTC on the horn to see if they'd be willing to send me a new device. After 15 minutes on hold, the call was dropped...

For anyone who thinks I just like to whine, check out the pics of #4 which showed up today:

No sure where I'm headed next, but I don't think I can take much more. For the record, I love this phone when it works.

You definitely have had more than your fair share of bad luck, yes. What a bummer. When you next call customer service, I suggest you try to seek out a supervisor. And then their super... until someone with some authority might try to set things right for you. They will have a record of your bad luck and should try to satisfy you. At least I would like to think they would. Best of luck

wow, thats some awful luck man. Im went through 2 Rezounds, 1st one had a dead pixel in the middle of the screen within 14 days. 2nd one has been great other than a strange sound when I keep vibrate on. As has been said, Id chase after some higher ups in the next call and they really have to set things right considering the stuff you have dealt with.

Wow... hope this one works out, but only 4 times... I am on something like phone number 6 or 8, but it was more like an upgrade program gone bad until now.

#1: HTC Incredible 2 - Day 2, bad proximity sensor
#2: HTC Incredible 2 - New unit as replacement, lasted a year until dock mode issues (no replacements in stock at the time)
#3: Samsung Stratosphere - CLNR - About 3 weeks and started rebooting at call end
#4: Samsung Stratosphere - CLNR - 1 Week, same issue (Demanded an HTC again)
#5: HTC Rezound - CLNR - Good phone for about 3 months, then proximity sensor issues
#6: HTC Rezound - CLNR - Good phone, dropped it,. broke the glass, and did Asurion insurance replacement
#7: HTC Rezound - Refurbished unit - Marginal proximity sensor out of box, started random boot looping after 3 weeks
#8: HTC Rezound - NEW in sealed box with all accessories, including iBeats, on day 2 with no issues on this one as of today.

This is all over a span of 15 months... Not that it means much, but you are not alone by any means.

But on another note, I have had my work Rezound for almost a year, and it has been flawless the entire time... But it has only about 10 or 15 apps loaded, almost everything not essential disabled, and is in an Otterbox Defender case all the time.

Rezound #5 for me giving me the same proximity sensor issues.... Frustrating that I have to hit the power button when I move the phone away from my face to turn the screen back on, and a lot of times that doesn't even do the trick. I'm frustrated that I paid $200 for this device (back when it cost that much) and I can't get a phone that I feel is worth what I paid for. VZW has offered me a pull-ahead upgrade, but I paid $200 expecting a phone that would last me a couple years. I didn't buy this phone simply to by another subsidized POS in less than a year. Not to mention that I'll lose my unlimited data next time I choose to "upgrade"...

Is it really that hard to push the power button? It seems like if you just convinced yourself its not that big of a deal you would be able to move on and enjoy your life. After a week of doing it, it would become second nature and you would never think about it again.

I have the same problem. But it is because my glass looks like the pics in first post. What I do is just press the glass at the Verizon symbol before a call. It works fine until the glass starts lifting again. And if I forget I just push it when I need the screen to come on.
For what its worth this is my 4th rez and I am sure that if they sent a replacement or would have the same problem.

I have a similar issue, however I took a hairdryer to my phone for about a minute and then held the top of the phone down for about 20 afterwards and so far it has held for 24 hours.
