Rezound #1: New device. Worked well for ~5 months. Proximity sensor began to slowly degrade until I couldn't activate my screen during a call without it immediately shutting off. Called in for a replacement.
Rezound #2: "Certified Like New": Same issue as #1, but occurred after only 2 months. Proximity sensor app confirms that the sensor continuously thinks that something is directly on top of the sensor when nothing is actually present. No screen protector installed. Called in for replacement.
Rezound #3: "Certified Like New": Spent the time transferring everything and configuring the phone only to find shortly thereafter that it has the well documented head phone issue where only static and random sounds come out of one of the headphones (confirmed on multiple sets of headphones). I spend a lot of time on conference calls with a headset, so this definitely won't work. Good thing I've got Verizon on speed dial....
Rezound #4: "Certified Like New": This one is the best. I received this phone today after lecturing some poor Verizon rep earlier this week about sending me yet another "certified" replacement which clearly is not certified at all. The most recent headphone issue has been extremely well documented in the press since this phone was first released. Sending me a device a year later with the same issue is simply not acceptable and indicates to me that the "100 point inspection" is completely worthless. I guess they heard me loud and clear because they sent me my most recent refurb with a screen that's hardly intact and the same proximity sensor issues I had with #1 and 2. The screen presses in to the housing only to slowly rise back out into the position shown below. As a result of this, the proximity sensor picks up the screen and won't allow me to operate the screen during calls. I couldn't even get the screen to stay on long enough to hit "0" a few times to talk with a verizon rep. I haven't even bothered checking the headphones, but that's probably not necessary. I've never received such a jacked up phone from Verizon before.
The icing on the cake: After spending 20 minutes this evening explaining to my most recent happy helper that I'm no longer interested in anything with the terms "certified" or "like" in the title, I was told to stand by while they get HTC on the horn to see if they'd be willing to send me a new device. After 15 minutes on hold, the call was dropped...
For anyone who thinks I just like to whine, check out the pics of #4 which showed up today:
No sure where I'm headed next, but I don't think I can take much more. For the record, I love this phone when it works.
