Help unstable :-/

Ive been carrying a backflip for about a week now, and ive already started having problems. Sometimes the market won't show search results, backing out and searching again fixes. com.android.phone crashes every single time I use the phone, comes back after a few seconds so not a big deal. The pull up app list no longer updates after installing or removing an app either, i have to kill com.motorola.blur.home to refresh it.

None are major, but its making me feel like this isnt a very stable platform, i had an iphone before this and despite the limits (some bypassable) it was really stable. Are problems like this to be expected from android? Its not too late for me to give this thing back and i dont want these minor problems to become major.

Im a linux user and developer so technical responses welcome and appreciated

I have not had any of the issues you have. Did you try a hard reset? Also are you using any task killers?

It is certainly not an Android problem. It is a Backflip problem.

The Backflip is a poor excuse for an Android phone.

I would much rather an iphone over the backflip.

That article and the assertion that the BackFlip is somehow not the full Android experience are both nonsense.

The full Android experience for 90% of users will not involve non-market apps. I also don't think most people will care about the Yahoo vs Google search when using the device. These are both just excuses to stab at AT&T and not based on any issues that will "hinder" your use of the phone or the Android experience.

Ok. I'll agree with you regarding Yahoo vs. Google search. I don't think I would care either way. And, yes, maybe it was a stab at AT&T. You're also right about the fact that the majority of the people that usr the Backflip will not be downloading non market apps.

Sorry to the OP for giving my opinion.

Seriously though, there are way better phones than the Backflip. Especially for people who exposed to the openness of Android.

Well, it's a matter of what you want out of a phone really. I am not looking for a gaming device or something to replace my laptop. I just need a phone with good app support, a good keyboard (physical) and a good UI that provides quick access to news, texting and social communication. With these needs in mind, I have found the BackFlip to be the best device for me so far. I have owned a G1, myTouch 3G, Moto Droid in addition to the BackFlip so I'm not saying this because it's my first Android phone.

Is this the best Android phone for everyone? Of course not. But it is the best (so far) Android phone for me and my needs. I do change phones often so if something better (with a physical keyboard) comes along I'll likely get it.

You're absolutely right. I guess I forget that everyone uses their device for different things.

Ok. Now back to the op's issue. Sorry for the hijack.

Do you have a task killer? If you do then that could be killing com.android.phone. I had that issue when using a task killer.

Are you using an alternative home app? If so, that may be why the app drawer isn't updating properly. I had that issue when using dxTop.

You could also try doing a factory reset. I know its annoying, but may fix the issue.

i did a hard reset and refrained from using any task killers like auto task killer and just letting the system run and kill on its own and it has been a lot better and more stable. Might have just needed the reset or one of the low level apps was causing problems but its been running a lot better.

And yea ill agree that the backflip is a little gimped, but once its rooted it wont matter what AT&T tries
