Think I may have started something on my private "moms" board. Oops.

One of the moms on my board was asking about the iPhone and I told her why would she be interested since the HTC Evo 4G is going to be released and kick the iPhone's a$$. Quite a few of the ladies on my board have the iPhone and are totally in love. It's all in fun and jest so it's not serious in any way.

Soooo, what will the EVO have/do the iPhone doesn't?

I'm excited about the Evo, but please stop slinging mud at Apple, the iphone is a brilliant device. We cant compare the Evo with the iphone until we hear its specs, comparing it to the 3gs is pointless. And good lord the mult-tasking argument is getting old, OMG I can't stream Pandora and surf the web, OMG! Sorry, if I sound bitter, but I hate all fanboys, not just Apple fanboys.

Can you not read? Do you possess some defecit in comprehending the written English language? I said I purposely said that in jest b/c quite a few ladies have iPhones and I was wanting to get them "riled up" in a fun, way/have a lively debate about it. Nothing serious. Pop a freaking Xanax.

The Evo is not even available yet lol and may not be here until June, which is also when the new iPhone is rumored to be released, so the comparison of a June 2010 phone to a June 2009 phone (iphone 3gs) has to be taken with a grain of salt or simply should not be compared. I don't think this hard to understand.

why don't you read the whole thread before saying I can't read. your post was half serious, the other 3 or 4 people comparing the iphone vs the Evo are DEAD SERIOUS. they truly believe what they are saying and they are comparing the June 2009 iphone to the June 2010 Evo. the entire world knows there is an iphone being released in June 2010, so I'm just pointing out the obvious fallacy in comparing the Evo to last years iphone.

Watch out mommy 's gonna hit you. lol

Seriously, are you saying that you can't compare the iphone to anything? Or that it shouldn't even brought up in these conversations. Either way i think its justified.

Besides, not for nothing, and although I do try to keep the peace and not be (so) bias, but this is a Android forum, an EVO 4G section and with the specs it has, comparing it to the iphone is logical. and in doing so one sees that iphone is not all that cracked up to be. Apple just makes me laugh, cause with their major introduction into the pc world with that infamous commercial throwing the hammer at the big brother screen, is now in that very same position of being the one in the screen and HTC/Google running down the aisle with the hammer.

How history repeats itself. its so funny.

Of course you can compare the iphone to the Evo, but doing so understand that it is not a fair comparison unless you compare the June '10 iphone to the June '10 Evo. So, in other words it is pointless for any concrete analysis, but sure it can be considered fun to do while we wait patiently for the Evo.

Passes acp a Xanax........

Oh my friggen head...you are the one that snapped at me about your jestful OP lol, I was annoyed by the iphone comparisons, far from being stressed. I'm typing from my Hero and don't want to reply to all that on here Covert, I'll respond when I get home, so don't think you wasted your time posting all that. You make some good arguments btw

In all honesty I would probably love to have both phones and have the ability to switch between them every other day. I'm not trying to take the passive route here but the iPhone is what it is. It revolutionized the way people look at "phones" now and there probably wouldn't be as many innovations in the industry if the iPhone didn't come to fruition. So give credit where credit is due. However, as far as comparing the 2 ACP, Covert_Death, and TS make excellent points. It's difficult to compare until we have the most recent iteration of both devices already. Here are my personal comparisons:

Apple - the company itself has strange approval processes in their apps and love to keep things "in house" as far as what goes into the device. They don't have a very "open" policy to changing the way the device works and sure as hell keep trying to defeat the "jailbreakers" with their updates. They (steve jobs) mostly love to be on the innovating end. Just look at he won't accept Flash technology as a standard because it's not "good enough" for Apple so they want to develop their own. They are buying their own chip companies to make sure they have full control of how their processors are developed etc etc etc

Google on the other hand...well you know. It's google. Don't be Evil. LOL. They work well with other hardware manufacturers who support them. They have a growing number of apps and aren't as strict in their app policies. They develop a lot of good tools and like to make them available to everyone for free (how the hell do they do that?) like google maps, docs, chat, google voice etc etc etc

Anyways thats my 2 cents.

@COVERT_DEATH

I absolutely agree 100%. I think Apple should really take a look around and should start listening to what their customers actually want instead of dictating what they need. It shouldn't have to come down to people trying to "Jailbreak" their device just to put things on it that they "don't approve."

You know. I'm a WinMO user atm, and the EVO 4g will be my first Android device. I have an Android port on my HTC Touch Pro 2 and it's fun to play with.

I'm looking at Android with an open thought process because I love the way Google does business..... and like Windows Mobile, Android is very customizable and has a very strong modding community and I love to tinker. Apple on the other hand, makes me refuse to use their products because Steve Jobs likes to rule with an iron fist and makes his products to his liking, and that's it.

I prefer the gadgets that I buy to be like a "Have it your way McDonalds meal". I'm not dishing out 100's of dollars just to be restricted in what I can do on a device that is restricted to a network that has a very crippled capacity and an even more crippled employee base that's ten sorts of headaches to deal with.

No thank you. So in that light, anything Apple vs Android (and especially HTC devices, because HTC is my favorite device manufacturer), i'll root for Android, and I don't even have an Android device yet. Apple has done a good job at making me hate them, very, very much.

Guys (and mom) chill, lol

Both sides make valid points. One just has to step out of the box and look at this in a different set of glasses. Put yourself in the other persons shoes. You will easily find that you too will find something wrong with what your debater is saying. So it just boils down to each owns different point of view. Apple is king, as much as one hates to admit it. Like I said, be it due to marketing, or people just accepting things without really questioning whats thrown at them.
I also believe that Apple is highly pissed off that this phone is coming out. Just looking at the specs alone is impressive. Thats not to say that the new iphone coming out won't have some tricks up its sleeve, and until then we won't know. But currently with their attack on HTC and trying to stop them from bringing in the EVO or any other HTC phone alone shows that they are scared that a sleeping giant is on the horizon and about to put its foot down and be noticed. Its now up to Sprint to carry the torch and steal a marketing strategy from Apple to market this baby full force. In the meantime we will continue to compare, praise and belittle both devices. Just hope it doesn't come down to a blood bath. lol

im sure apple has some cool stuff coming with iphone os 4.0, and i imagine the new iphone will use that a4 1ghz proc like the ipad. it will most likelyget a boost in ram too, and the new os will allow multi tasking in a very organized way. the thing is android and the evo already do and have all that and more. the screen on the iphone will never be bigger then 3.7 or so unless they want to re work everything from the ground up. apple may be hated around here but you cant argue that the iphone is a amazing device.

ive owned everything from iphone 3g to nokia n95, htc touch pro, htc apache, htc vouge, htc dream aka g1, htc hero, motorola q, htc hd1, and now the droid. all the os's have strong points and advantages over others, what it comes down to is the USER. will the evo kill or even outsell the iphone, hell no i promise you it wont even do 1/2 the sales, maybe even 1/4. but android will outsell the iphone, hell since the droid it is almost there, and now we have the incredible and n1 coming to vzw which will get a bigger audience. then the evo will add even more to those numbers.

hardcore iphone users wont switch, same with the average jor who wants a easy to use smartphone with more apps then some countries populations. same as hardcore androiders wont switch. winmo and bb users are who will be seriously looking at the evo and new iphone.

I agree here for the most part. I don't agree with the iPhone amazing device comment, just because of something I said before about not being customizable. However, I am a WinMO user that will be switching my Main device to Android, and keeping my WinMo device on back up.

Part of that has to do with the fact that Microsoft is becoming a Microfail and from the looks of it, Windows Phone 7 is going in the direction of being as locked down as the iPhone is. That spells nothing but trouble and hate for me.

Android is the last contender at the moment that will allow me to be me, and allow my device to fit me (Going forward from here that is) for the time being.

Yea, customization is a fail for the iPhone in stock form, but when you jailbreak it then you can really go crazy. I had some very neat themes on my 3G that really changed the UI around. Jailbreaking isn't much different then rooting a Android phone or hacking a WinMo phone and using custom ROM's, so to argue that you have to jailbreak it to customize it is a moot point. Changing wallpapers can be easily done without jailbreaking though, you just need the wallpapers app. I still think it is stupid you can't just change it through a native/stock setting though.

I say the iPhone is amazing because it changed the way manufacturers made smartphone OS'. Maybe not WinMo because that has been around for ages, but it definitely made HTC step up with TouchFlo 3D and Sense. Android may or may not have been around or at least as popular if it wasn't for the iPhone too. And the one thing that can't really be debated is the App game that the iPhone has brought to the table. Without that we wouldn't see nearly as many apps for Android. I still miss some of the apps I had for my 3G, but I would never go back to it for that. Games are also a strong point for the iPhone and Android is seriously lacking, hell even the Pre has better games now. It isn't a hardware problem but more so a Developer Kit lacking for serious game dev's to use.

And WP7 sucks the balls, I wont argue on that one with you.
