Has anybody used root-android.org? I think I just got ripped off using them. They guaranteed they could root my android device and after troubleshooting with them about issues they just stopped communicating. I asked for my money back because I was within the 30 day money back guaranty period. Guess what. No response. Pass the word. Don't try root-android.org!

Did you pay by credit card, file a dispute

Sorry, I haven't. But, at least you can spread the word.

Like donb said, if you can, file a dispute.

Also, we likely have a sub-forum for you device and how to root it. So, at the very least you should be able to root your device.

Sorry for the pain and agony you have had to deal with. I will say this is one of the reasons I have always believed you must do it yourself. There are just things you need to know how to do when these types of problems occur. Knowing how to Nandroid and Restore and flash with out programs like ROM MANAGER are extremely important. Programs like that can't help when all you have it the recovery environment.

Read and ask questions. Here we teach you how to root and do the rest of it all for free. We never charge for the information. After all places like that use places like us to learn the process themselves.

I really hope you can get your money back but if not let it be the last expensive lesson you get with rooting a phone. We exist for such things as teaching you how to do so yourself. Good luck

My experience was the same. They demonstrated no real knowledge of the process of rooting, or the tools they were suggesting that I use to root. Their responses seemed to follow a script - oh that didn't work - now try this. i asked specific questions which they never answered. When I asked for a refund they totally stopped responding. As of today their website isn't accessible. I will be trying several avenues to obtain a refund.

DON'T DEAL WITH THEM! This is a SCAM!

So sad when things go bad. I ALWAYS refer people to this forum when the urge for freedom strikes. I just hope the LOC does not screw it us for us all.

I see tons of sites were people can give some unknown some cash to handle rooting. I cannot fault those for trying to make a buck. I can fault them for screwing the public, however. Never acceptable.

Agree completely.

I remember way back on the Evo 4G forum from time to time a new user would want to root without having to do any work, offering to pay someone to root for them... we were always able to help them out (and as far as I know no one got paid)...

Yep, when it comes to rooting, jailbreaking, or even softmodding a console, there's always a few people willing to try to monetize it.

When it comes to root-android.org, if they're the kinda service that makes you pay to download the rooting tools and give next to no support (haven't checked their site), then it sounds similar to the situation the Wii/homebrew channel guys had to deal with a few years back.

Some rather unscrupulous people had taken their tools, rebranded the install package, then started selling it to those who didn't know any better. It got to the point where the HomeBrew Channel guys (Team Twizzers) re-wrote their install package to include a "Scam Screen" before the main installer started, informing people that "if you paid anyone for this software, you got scammed." That seriously put a thorn in some of the scammers sides, as they could no longer sell the newer versions of the HomeBrew channel software.

Perhaps our rooting devs should consider similar approaches?

ok to be honest for me, if you can personally root your phone then you are more then equipped to handle any troubleshooting should something was to go wrong. by paying someone to root your phone, you loose all of the hands on knowledge and you will have a higher chance of either bricking your phone or something that you do not know how to troubleshoot. unless you take the time to know how to root your phone, you will be asking for trouble unless you just leave it at that.

plus rooting is fun and is a good thing to learn. some methods are more of a pain then anything else, but still worth it. i love the challenge that rooting brings......but this is just me.

Hey everyone!
I'm new to Android and the site, so keeping that in mind:
For what it's worth, I ignorantly (after reading this thread) paid Root-Android.org around $30 and tried repeatedly to root my entry level ZTE Z-990 phone without success. However, when I emailed them they responded promptly every time, and finally promised to refund my purchase and referred me to Rootpros.com. They said if could take up to two weeks for refund to show up on my cc :-\, but since I was actually beyond the 30 days, they weren't obligated to give me a refund at all! So, we shall see. I will report back in two weeks or when refund received. More than fair if they honor their word. Like I said, for what it's worth. I'm far from being a tech guy. But, In my experience they are good folks (geeks), as indicated by responses on here to original post. As someone said, don't blame anyone for trying to make a buck for something that is a skill. I will let ya'll know if they are true to their word. Sorry so long:)
All the best, td13

Agreed 100%. The problem is that some folks who are new to Android won't know that they can root their own device, and they may see that website as an answer to their dreams. An organization that says they can root any android device is just a blatant lie.

I will help anyone root their device for free... I can even do it for you via TeamViewer, and walk you through S-OFF. Payment after service would be accepted but not required of course.

Hello. I tried sending you a private message but was unable as I am too new. Would you be willing to help me root my phone? HTC Evo 3D (Virgin Mobile). Several years ago I tried rooting an older phone and struggled. I'd be happy to donate! Thank you.

welcome to AF!!!!!!!!!

personally i would recommend that you try rooting the phone by yourself. this way you have some idea on how everything works in the root environment should you need to do some troubleshooting.

if you have any questions about it i would go here:
EVO V 4G - All Things Root - Android Forums which is for your phone.

and here is the guide to get you rooted:
http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-all-things-root/695161-s-off-root-fix-everything-all-in-one.html

good luck
