Land of Oz
Today I did some Christmas shopping and replaced two dumb phones with new Rezounds. I was surprised and a little amused at the phones available and their prices. I wasn't after the latest and greatest... I was after a sound working phone with fair battery life and a price I could live with. I could upgrade to the Razr, which came out at the same time as the Rezound, for fifty bucks each. The iphone original to VZ was free lol.
I did not check the price of the Nexus... I was never wowed by that phone.... no offense to those that like it. The Rezound was sitting at $150 after a $50 rebate.

I went with the Rezound mostly because after a year.. I'm still enjoying the phone and it's serving me well. I have confidence in the phone. It hangs onto a 4G signal like a dog on a bone and I've never experienced a dropped call. In any event, it's still my phone of choice.

What are your thoughts about the Rezound today... it's price compared to comparable models... it's value as a purchase?

Actually, I think the Rezound is still a viable product... it's specs are still considered mid to high-end compared to other handsets, the only real drawback compared to new models is the battery life, it is significantly lower than most newer handsets.

That's pretty much my thoughts as well. And it's tricky trying to equate the actual battery life that's reported for other units... the end user is always a huge variable. I was a bit concerned about the proximity sensor problem that's been discussed lately... for I'm experiencing the same after a year's use. I also took note of the recent thread of the charging port being an issue. I still have confidence in the Rez obviously... investing in two more units.

To be honest, I was expecting the Rez to be much cheaper than it was. The other phones of it's vintage have dropped dramatically... as expected.
Yet the Rez still commands a substantial investment.

Really? The Rezound is only $39.99 on letstalk.com HTC Rezound™ - 4G LTE | LetsTalk.com and only $0.01 on Amazon Mobile AmazonWireless: HTC Rezound 4G Android Phone (Verizon Wireless) although it does show "Back Ordered" on Amazon... :/

Not really too much of an investment! I never get phones direct from Verizon anymore, too expensive by comparison... the last 3 or 4 phones I have gotten on renewal were all from letstalk.com

As far as battery life goes, I prefer to look at screen on time, since the screen is the major battery drainer... the Rezound will get you 2-2.5 hours on a standard battery, most Razr's and SGS3's will get you close to 4.

The Rezound is a great phone, and having a phone you like is the most important thing.

I had a Rezound but it wasn't right for me. So I switched to a RAZR MAXX which is another great phone but the screen was too small for my eyes. It cost mucho dollars but now I have a Note II and I *love* it!

One year in and Rezound continues to be a very capable phone... 720p screen, expandable memory, solid build plus the fact that it's a world phone for global roaming.
It is a great phone, but it's not an official world phone. Verizon has yet to put out the update that allows for global capabilities. The only way to get that now is to root it.

Not true... Global Mode can easily be achieved with the "official" HTC leaked ROM version 4.3.605.2, no rooting, S-OFFing, or warranty-voiding modding required!

I have an upgrade as of November but just havn't found anything on Big Red that I want. I had 3 Tbolts and 3 Rezounds in about a year. Never dropped one, always crazy software issures. Honestly while I mostly like the Android platform, It seems to me pretty much all android phones have various bugs and hickups. I read quite a few forums. I've thought about crapple, since they do work and work well, but I can't get by the company itself. I'm curious about the WP phones, but if they're anything like their computer operating systems, well, hell no, although they will probably get loads of updates! So till next years phones start coming out, I'm hanging on to Rez #3 as it has been behaving for the most part. I love to be able to swap out a battery and have an SD slot and until I see something killer with those 2 items I"m sitting pat on the Rez. I have 5 batteries thanks to having 3 from the Bolt and I love that they work in the Rez. Maybe the SG4 will be worth waiting for.

I know a couple people with Windows phones, for the most part they like them... no real issues, battery life is acceptable, quick, but if they have a drawback it is the base of applications, there just isn't a whole lot available like iPhones or Android phones. I am in a similar boat, I have a Rezound that is now behaving nicely (with 5 batteries, thanks to various issues) and due for an upgrade in a few months but not seeing anything that makes me want to jump... guess I will wait a while and see what comes out as well.

It's the HTC update, and not a "Verizon" update . If you try calling Verizon to activate the global roaming plan they will tell you it's a not available on this phone.
I wish it did because I could have used it.

I still love my phone but my only gripe is the battery life. I purchased the HTC extended battery and battery life is MUCH improved but at the cost of aesthetics. So I either have a crappy looking phone or crappy battery life, LOL. And my battery seems to get pretty hot, too. I'll routinely hit 115F with it. :(

That was from 100% charge.
Does anybody know if either the Chichitec 1700mah batteries or the Onite 1750mah batteries or the GTMax 1800mah batteries or even the Mugen 1900mah batteries are viable options for our phones to fit behind the stock back?
As long as I can into a scenario with what I feel is proper battery life (IMO leaving for work at 100% or so and not hitting 30% until around 5pm with moderate/heavy use) I may never get rid of this phone - that is until HTC comes out with something with a larger 1280 screen, proper battery life and expandable storage OR I can get a Sony Xperia on Verizon. :D
The things I like about my phone are the Beats headphones (they ARE pretty decent in sound quality but not worth the premium IMO - about the same sound quality as some of my $35 Sony's), the build quality, overall experience. I love tinkering with apps, launchers, screens, etc and this phone never lets me down.

.... I'll routinely hit 115F with it....

Is it actually 113 degrees?

113 degrees (45 degrees C) is a common CPU governor setting where the OS throttles back the CPU performance. That is why many phones run at 113 degrees.

My Rezound often reached 125 degrees. -The Notification light would begin flashing green-orange-green-orange-green-orange ....
-Then there would be warning messages
-Then the Rezound would go into Cooldown Mode, shut down, and refuse to restart until it had cooled down.

You don't need to be rooted to check the governor temperature settings on your phone;
Just run a

Im surprised as well at the amount you paid for the phones. That does seem high.
The DNA is only $50 more with new contract.
I thought the Rezound dropped to $50 in the late spring/early summer?

I got mine for $200 in late December last year, only been out 1 month. So not much of a decrease with all the new phones coming out.

I bought one yesterday for...free. Just go in to verizon and tell them it was free online, they will find the promo code and bada bing. Free rezound.

For some reason it's free online, and like 100 dollars in store (unless you tell them it was free online)
