Android Forums Chat?

I think there should be a chat/IM feature on AndroidForums so everyone can chat while skipping happily throughout the forums without sending someone a PM worrying they won't see your PM for hours. It would be just like at the bottom right/left hand corner like Facebook Chat. I googled it, and there are a few options. There is flashchat. I read though it quickly, but it sounds like a vBulletin version of IRC :) Theres a link for flash chat HERE. There is a meebo bar mod for vBulletin too, although flashchat looks better. Links are HERE and HERE if you wanna check Meebo out.

Hope you guys really consider this!

Happy early Christmas!

We do already have an IRC channel, although the client embedded in the site is really bad. I've never even been able to open it. That might be one of the reasons its usually quiet in there.

You can log into it via any other IRC client, such as this one. Just put androidforums in the channel field and it will connect to ours for you.

True, but I was thinking of something like Facebook chat, that little bar at the bottom right hand side. Something that could be used in-site.

I definitely like the idea of a more easily accessible/usable chat system, but loading the chat window on every page (like facebook) runs the risk of bogging the site down. Recently we've been trying to cut down on unnecessary site features for that very reason. So I'd vote for still having it on its own page of the site, rather than all of them.

What about a pop out? The button could be a handy short cut to a little pop out chat window for freenode #androidforums that somehow magically signs allows you to join under your username. Or it could still be like facebook chat, but it connects to freenode rather than use AF's servers. I'm sure theres some php magic for that ;)
