Hey everyone,

E-mailed HTC, extremely mad over all the issues both the Dream and Magic users have encountered post update. I received a great reply from a service rep:

Thank you for contacting HTC Technical Assistance Center. I apologize for the length of time it took me to respond to your email. I understand how frustrating it can be to receive software complications on your Rogers Dream after updating the operating system on your HTC Device. I will be happy to assist you with this concern.

HTC Technical Assistance Center has been informed there is to be a secondary software update for the Rogers Dream. Unfortunately no information has been released on when the update is going to be released or what version the software update will be released. Please contact Rogers to receive information on a future update for the Rogers Dream. You will receive a notification on your Dream from Rogers letting you know when the software update is available. Please follow these instructions to resolve any software complications you have received on your Rogers Dream.

I followed up asking availability when it is released, and got this:

Currently no information has been released on the Android Software Update for the Rogers Dream. You will receive a notification on your Dream letting you know when the software update is available. You can keep updated on the support page for your on t he HTC Website to receive information on the software update being released.

So, two things confirmed here:

1) Another update is coming, and given the unknown ETA, I will assume it is a major bug fix, and
2) It will be dropped Over-The-Air (*edit, forgot that they never included that in the previous update, thanks Brendan), and be available for download as well.

Hope I brought some happiness to us Dream users! As for Magic owners, I believe they may just skip it and go straight to 2.1.

Not possible for the dream as no ota client is built into the firmware. It was given to the Magic in the sense update not the dream so you will have to use a computer and wipe your phone to update

Yeah I'm aware of that, probably should've corrected that part to them. Regardless, we are getting patched or something.

Hey all,
I actually just e-mailed HTC recently as well, asking if a generic and non-Rogers branded 911 fix would be released (they had originally told me it would come at a later date.) Keep in mind that I am messaging them under the impression that my phone has not been updated, even though it has. Here is what I got:

Thank you for contacting HTC Technical Assistance Center. We understand how important it is to be able to have your device working properly and up to date. However the only update for your device would be the Rogers update. We do not have generic version of that rom update, as it was a concern for specific carriers devices. You would need to perform the update with Rogers.

I want to apologize for any inconveniences you may have experienced. I want to thank you for contacting HTC. In order to help improve our service I’d like to invite you to take a survey at HTC Online Survey.

So, no luck from HTC themselves but good to see Rogers is trying to fix what they did. Let's see what happens...

Xbrav: Sadly, we were also told by an HTC rep repeatedly about how Rogers needed to ask HTC for the update, and then we were told by HTC and Rogers that that rep was "wrong" and had been "spoken to". That was just before they told us officially there would be no update at all.

If Brendan is correct that there is no OTA client in the Dream, then maybe this rep misunderstood and thought you were asking about the Magic, and not the Dream?

I think we need RogersMary to confirm/deny this.

Considering that Rogers did a Dream to Magic upgrade I think they should offer a ROM update that allows for root access so that the Dreams can be used with 3rd party ROMs. I've seen them run nicely on 1.6. better that then just thrown away like so many millions of phones.
At worst, you lucky folks that got the Magic upgrade should be able to ask for the Dream unlock code. Same as if you finished your contract.

To check for ota client Settings>About Phone>System Updates

If it is not there no OTA client is present. Really stupid move on rogers to remove it from the dream tho.

Michael,
I messaged Mary the other day, and she should be looking into it. She is aware of the conversation.

Was curious to know where this was going to go but I'm getting sick of waiting. I think I am just going to bite the bullet and have this thing JTAGed on the weekend. For those interested, I'd advise you to check out the forums on XDA developers. Some Toronto devs are willing to do the hack for you.
