So, not sure this will be seen as this part of the forum doesnt get much traffic but here is my story...

I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy Camera GC100 from ebay, which it turns out is an ex store display model. Not too happy about this as there is functionality that is locked down and every so often it resets itself so any photos i take are lost... Have contact the seller, no response so aside from going through ebay complaints, which i will do, it looks as it I am stuck with the camera... I love it, but want it to work properly obviously.

My question is this... is there a way to reset the camera back to original settings? Before anyone suggests it, there is a password on the item so I can not use the Settings-Restore route... I was wondering if there was a hard reset that could be forced by pressing a combination of the buttons or something...

Nothing i have tried so far has worked, and aside from routing it, which i think would do the trick but I am unsure about, i have no options.

Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

Most android devices have a factory reset button down in settings somewhere, I'd think that would work. This thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995245 about rooting also mentions recovery from rooting by reinstalling the factory image, so you might be able to do a factory image install to get everything reset (these are all theories, I have no experience doing either one, so I make no guarantees :).

Not many folks around here have the galaxy camera but it's android so we'll do out best to help you out.

To start with, how are you able to take pics if it has a password on it?

You can gain access to notifications and settings by pulling down the screen from the top. See if you can get into settings/ backup & reset/ factory reset.

Please know I don't have this cam and my help is coming from Google. There's one other member Claghorn who may be able to help you find the settings- he has this cam.

Sorry If i wasnt clear.... there is a password on the device that means i cant access anything that allows me to change the settings... So i can get into the Settings, change things like the sound etc, but if I go into the Restore area, the bit I would need to use to greyed out.

Looking in the security area, it has a profile set up that I can not turn off as this asks me for a password to do so. Trying to change it by going into anything on the settings seems like its a no go for me :-(

Im having a look at the link that you sent, but so far its not getting my very far... thanks anyway.

I have also tried using Keis as I presumed there would be a function in here to revert to factory settings any device that is plugged into it, but cant see this either..

Looking like i bought a dud.... shame.

Seems i have just managed to work this out myself so thought I would post it here in case anyone else needs to know.

In order to get the camera into a state where you can reboot and revert to factory settings you need to turn it off, then on again pressing the power button and holding the zoom flicker to the right. When it comes up with the name screen, release both and itll display the android robot and then show a screen giving you options to restore, reboot etc... Following these options, i was able to restore back to factory settings and all is hunky dory.

Woo hoo.

Thank you so much for coming back and posting how you were able to get thru this.
Many people don't often do so believe me when I tell you it's much appreciated.
As you already see, the forum for this camera is pretty small so this helps should someone else have the same or similar issue.
I haven't seen ONE post that details how to factory reset the camera.

CONGRATS !!!
