lots of problems... exhibit 2 on Tmobile prepaid

Had the phone for a month. After the first week had had lots of problems with crashing, freezing, finding GPS, sending messages, finding service, etc.

I disabled lookout antivirus in favor of avast mobile security and it works slightly better but still terrible.
I only have google translate, where's my water?(game), angry birds, yelp, instagram installed, I also use app to Sd to identify what can be moved and I store everything I can on the sd card. It's a 2GB card.
I don't download music or videos only occasionally watch on YouTube.

My ram is always between 290-310mb in use and I don't know how to reduce it. I feel this has allot to do with my problems. If it's over 295 the phone is even slower. I use an app killer to. It helps sometimes.

P please help. I'm a total newb.

The Exhibit is only a single core phone so your best bet is to root it and flash a custom ROM like Peach Sunrise. The memory is very limited so rooting/custom ROM will help. IT doesn't solve the memory problem but it helps.

Also, you can use apps like a cache cleaner and an app called fast reboot. This app "reboots" all your apps as if you rebooted the whole phone, without having to power down.

You may also want to upgrade your 2gb card to an 8/16/32 gb card because 2gb cards tend to cause issues.

The exhibit is a solid little phone that I used for a little while, taking advantage of TMobile's ppd plan.

Peach Sunrise probably will help. But if you don't want to go the custom ROM route, just make sure your software is up to date. If, under phone status IIRC, it says Android 2.3.5, then you are using the original buggy firmware. The later 2.3.6 builds provided by Samsung / T-Mobile are much more stable, as long as you don't want to use a Bluetooth keyboard. An update via Kies should make you happier, if indeed you are still running 2.3.5.

The Galaxy Exhibit 4G is a dog of a phone out of the box. The potential is there but the stock software ruins it.

The first bit of good news is that's is very easy to achieve root on this phone. You don't even need to hook it up to a computer or any of that nonsense.

The next, and even greater piece of news is the development community for the Galaxy Exhibit 4G has been on quite a roll lately. There is a nice choice of ROMs. A few of them are Jellybean 4.1.2. I'm running a ROM called Slimbean. Its a Jellybean ROM that runs like a dream. Google Now and all that other stuff is running perfectly.

RebelROM is a solid rom with some ICS flavor. It's still a gingerbread ROM with some ICS features.


Yeah, you can keep the stock ROM and remove bloat once rooted. Just be careful that you don't delete any necessary system files.

Just an fyi, unless you download apps from sketchy sites anti virus software on Android is pretty much useless. Unless the app fits a known virus signature at download they can't do anything because running apps are in a sandbox and can't be scanned at runtime.

I am going back and forth between this and peach sunrise, which one would be better and more stable. Honestly I don't care about adding tons of features, just the basic 2.3.x + stable, less laggy OS would be enough for the user. I just don't want to risk getting stalled in case of emergency, and thought of not having 911 is scary.

Each phone is different so which ROM is "better and stable" for me would not neccessarily be better and stable for you. I had equal success w/both. Peach Sunrise would probably be the best one to start with.

I got the same phone (Exhibit 4G T679) and I am looking for a stable and speedy ROM that does not sacrifice basic & most important features. I know some people will trade in stuff like 360 camera feature, better dialer, more apps, more themes, etc.. for stability. This is my wife's first android phone, so it is already an upgrade from what we had before, and even if we don't have a fancy sliding menus, it is fine. Basically we need it to run fast and reliable.

Thank you, but it still looks so complicated, I don't understand.

So mine is not rooted, stock, do I use the first one?

This zip will install Superuser, su and busybox, leaving you rooted, but otherwise no changes to your phone. ClockworkMod must be installed to flash this. So:

1. Flash ClockworkMod
2. Boot into ClockworkMod and flash root-stock.zip.

Besides above there are two more: Rooted Community ROM (forkable)
Custom rooted kernel


And all states something called clockwork must be flashed etc..
The instructions state Download & copy the current t679.uv???.deodex.0x.zip to your internal sd.. is this instructions for the 2nd method, or does this mean it applies to all methods?


So, to sum it all, we need clockworkmod, which is like a modified samsung recovery app but it says load "cwm.galaxy.exhibit.zip" do they refer to this: (cwm.6012.t679.zip ) ? And then this replaces Samsung's standard recovery?

I have a friend who has an Exhibit II prepaid from T-Mobile that has problems as well she has a newborn and no phone so I told her I'd look at. I know the best help is here at ole faithful android forums. I suspect that the phone is soft bricked however I'm a nov.
The device was looping then it put up a message that it had a firmware problem and to update through Kies well I connected it and then it shutdown and rebooted to the same message. Now my laptop doesn't fine the device. The phone will boot into Odin yet still not found when connected to USB can anyone please help me get this thing working neither her or myself can afford a new devices and with a newborn communication is a must.

Agree with To Serve Man. The Galaxy Exhibit (II) now has its own section at XDA and the devs are all there and can help you faster.

No only has download mode and then is not recognized by computer when connected to USB
