Note 10.1 vs Ipad 4

My timeline history - I purchase the first i-pad because I had an the second generation i-phone. Earlier this year, I traded the i-phone for the Galaxy Note phone, and I love it. I have never looked back and told myself that I would never own another Apple product.

Since then, my use of the i-pad dwindled. The OS on the Note makes more sense to me. So, I gave my i-pad to my Mom, and I'm looking at the Note 10.1 tablet. I went to Best Buy yesterday to make my purchase, but the sales guy keep pushing the the i-pad 4 on me. I must admit it was sweet to hold and see.

I went home and researched reviews of both tablets on CNET. I now have cold feet to the Note 10.1, and I need your help pushing me back to it.

Do you think the screen resolution on the Note is lacking so much to make a difference? Also, I did not realize that the SD slot is a mini on the Note. I just purchased a Nikon DSLR and I want to keep the pics on my new tablet. It has a normal size SD card. How do I transfer those using a mini-SD card?

If you own the Note 10.1 tablet, what are the best features and what are the worst features?

I've struggled with the 'idea' of a higher resolution tab with both the iPad 4 and the Nexus 10. The iPad was easily dismissed (for me) after I played with one. I didn't like iOS. The Nexus 10 was more difficult. I actually bought one. The screens are nicer but honestly the note 10.1 is pretty fantastic too.

One of the things I couldn't live without by going to one of the other tabs is Photoshop touch. I love adjusting my photos with the stylus. I also use s note more and more (I hated it at first). I truly love the note 10.1 and am starting to wonder what I will do if there is no note 10.1 2...or 3.

I have honestly never had a day where I looked at my note's screen and wished it looked better. Would I buy a higher resolution note 10.1? Absolutely. Id buy it today - I like cutting edge. Would I exchange the screen for the pen? Nope.

Resolution does not make up the whole tablet experience. What you can do with the tablet itself does. And you can do 10x more iwth Note than iPad.

I own n8000 verison which included wifi and 3g... i find this great and spend lots of time and already put 64gb of sandisk sdxc card into slot that work prefect. I dont like any ipad or iphone as i find this so boring also ipad using dual core as galaxy note 10.1 run quad core exynos and 2gb ram that big one... im happy with my own sgn 10.1 all way

Screen resolution is overrated. Remove the screen resolution comparison, which tablet has the most options between a Note 10.1 and Ipad 4? Yeah....Note 10.1. Between the multitasking capabilities, split screens, S-Pen technology, Microsd expansion option....there's so much more possibilities. Yeah Ipad 4 has an awesome screen, I'll be the first to admit, but what does that screen let you do? Nothing except view content in higher pixel density. The average user doesn't even know the difference. You can throw high def movie files on the Note 10.1 and looks awesome in my opinion. I love the video gallery, the thumbnails actually show the preview of the video. I was on the fence like you were Black Friday weekend but chose the Note 10.1 because of what it can do for me. You can't install custom homescreens on an Ipad anything.

Sometimes I miss my iPad but if I'm feeling nostalgic I grab someones iPhone in the house. I may eventually get another one. I have a lot of money tied into iOS apps.

The Note has a micro-sd card slot. Most Micro-sd cards come with a SD card adaptor, so you could use it in your camera in this adaptor, then just swap the card between devices.

Of course you will probably want to use the card slot on your Note to expand it's memory, something you can't do on an ipad.

You can get a USB device reader for the Note (and any other Samsung Galaxy) such as this and read your SD card with that, then transfer your pictures from the camera card that way. Haven't tried one yet, my Canon has Compact Flash cards, so will be getting an adaptor to read that format.

I'm an ex Apple fanboy as well. Love my note and note 10.1. I'm not looking back either. Apple is failing miserably. Their staff is falling apart and they are not innovative anymore. Just recycling the same stuff and bumping up specs since Steve died. Their stocks are reflecting it now.

I like my screen. I also like how the s-pen is stored in the device, let's see an iPad do that. The photoshop app is cool and new to me but I am learning it and enjoying it.

Best overall design perk of the Note 10.1 is the speakers are at the front of the device. Sound like a little thing but actually hearing movies and games in stereo and actually hearing them without having to cup my hand over the speaker is a monumental difference. Also let's see the ipad run widgets and more than one app on the screen. Do I have to go on? You will love it.

most people care about screen quality these days and how awsome it looks. the galaxy note 10 has a good quality screen. i haven't been disappointed.

but the real thing about tablets that not alot of people look at is what you can do with it and its features.

now the galaxy note 10 has a lot of features coming out of the box. specially when the jellybean update comes out there will be a lot more added features and thats just one update.

the main reason i chose the galaxy note 10 is because its an android tablet, its a quad core, multi window features, s pen, ir remote features and just because its awesome device. oh and micro sd card slot always good.

now u can choose between the bland boring ipad or the galaxy note 10.

I'm fairly sure that the iPads don't support WiFi Direct either. I use this to connect with my TV but there are a range of uses. I believe it allows for very fast file transfer.

I believe it does support WiFi Direct. I saw someone seinding files over WiFi from a laptop to an iPad.

That may not mean WiFi direct. Wireless through a router is not the same thing. A Wireless router or modem isn't required to connect with WiFi direct.

I purchased the 10.1 Note. In the end, the Note's many features beat the retina screen. Plus when you put the two side by side, I couldn't see a difference between them. The Note's screen is pretty awesome.

"ES File Explorer Manager" - excellent tool for browsing other networked computers.

"QuickPic" - Image viewer and gallery (I just like it better than the stock viewer)

"MX Player" - my preferred video player, plays everything.

App I just started experimenting with - and SO useful for moving content (like the photos you mention) wirelessly:

AirDroid. If those photos are on your PC, you can use AirDroid to wirelessly move them to your Note. I just moved a bunch of movie files to the Note in preparation for time in a plane heading to vacation.

Also, if you keep your photos in a service such as Flickr, then try this app:

FlickFolio. It allows you to display, sort and manage your Flickr photos from your Note. Now they don't even have to be installed on your Note; just view them from this cool app from where they are stored in the cloud.

Snapseed. You may not need this much with the PS Touch app already installed, but it's a quick way to add frames or other filters or modifications to your photos. Fun, and free!

I got my Note about 2 months ago, and at the time, they were offering a free Dropbox account of 50 GB. If you get offered this (download the Dropbox app and sign up through your Note) take it. It's an easy way/place to store & move files (including images) between your PC and your Note.

You made a good choice. I had an iPad g and sold it to get an iPad 4. In the end I got myself and my partner a Note 10.1 instead. We both love it. And I'm using it right now . I Can do so much more with it than my iPad. Couple iPad apps I miss but, not enough to give up my Note!

Flickfolio is an amazing app. Also gives you the option of downloading the photos to the tablet for offline viewing!
