[Verizon] Cyanogen Mod 10.1

yeah i have flashed one of the nightlies and it was really smooth and everything worked. But in terms of features it is really lacking. I have tried every 4.2 rom out there for the Gnex and i honestly cant stop myself from going back to the latest Xenon build. However, I have flashed all of the nightlies on my Nexus 7 so far (i dont need a crazy amout of features on my tablet like i do my phone) and it is running AMAZINGLY. I will continue to flash the nightlies daily and i am looking forward to seeing what comes of CM10.1. Maybe one day it will have the features that so many of use crave but for now it is still really solid and smooth but thats about it

If you want a CM ROM that is 4.2 and has a few more features so far I would check out Euroskank. That one isn't bad

Questions...

I have recently gone from Dinc to the Gnex and am thinking for the first time to root and run custom ROM on a device. I am thinking of going with CM 10.1 nightly but am wonder do I need to reinstall every so often to get fixes or do they come over the air?

Hopefully I can try this soon. Had problems trying to root last night because ADB wasn't coming up in fastboot. Going to try a toolkit process tonight from xdadevelopers that I hope gets me past that obstacle.

I installed the update via the CM Updater... flashed, then flashed the Gapps I've been running for CM10 and subsequent builds... suddenly everything went haywire... first I kept getting the "unfortunately setup has stopped working" pop up and couldn't do anything but pull down the notification bar... restarted several times... still no dice... so I tried to wipe... got stuck in continuous CM boot animation... booted in recovery and tried to flash another ROM I had saved... same thing... continuous boot animation.. at last check about 3 hours... any ideas on how to fix this?

also... apologies if this is in the wrong spot... just figured since we were talking about this ROM....

I flashed the first nightly build for 10.1 and have had zero issues. Battery life is as good as I have had it on other ROMs, it is really snappy, yes all of the features are not there....yet. The main thing that I want back from the 10 build is the Bluetooth MAP profiles so that it will transfer to my car's display. Other than that, I am happy with it. I flashed the next one late yesterday (the Experimental one) and still no issues.

I came from JellyBelly 11.0.....was waiting for the 11.1 release and had to flash something (was getting the shakes and cold sweats).

Per their G+ post, you are NOT supposed to install 10.1 with their CM Updater. Because the file system changes from 10.0 to 10.1, a bunch of stuff won't work. Which means flashing back won't work, due to the same reason.

You will probably have to merge all your files to the new location.

When I decided to roll back to 4.1 from 4.2.1 (and all the associated file issues) I decided it was easier to copy/backup my files to my computer and then use Wugfresh's toolkit to unroot and reflash to 4.0.4 (randomly chosen version). I then re-rooted and applied my ROM of choice. Worked perfectly.

For your first ROM, I would try something a little more stable. I'm not trying to bad mouth CM, they just released 10.1 though, and there's been a few bugs reported (there's bound to be bugs-a-plenty in a ROM's first few releases on a new version of Android).

If you are looking for something more stable, try either XenonHD (quite a few mods, similar to what CM would have, if not more) or MMuzzy's stock 4.2.1 build (very close to stock with just a couple mods). I've been on both and they're both great ROMs.

CM 10.1 is still a viable option, just be prepared to read through it's forum pages for warnings and fixes for bugs.

Thanks!

Starting to get a little cold feet on the custom ROM's.

Once installed does the device get notified of any updates/fixes?

By updates are you referring to CM or from Verizon? I assumed that CM incorporates anything we'd get from Verizon. Is that correct? Thanks.

I am referring to the CM Night lies from CyanogenMod. I dirty flash them each night along with the 21212012 GApps. I wipe cache & Delvik and the flash. With those two files you should have everything that you need. Not sure what Verizon gives you (bloatware?), but this will work perfectly on Verizon's network.

Are you pulling down gapps each time you get the nightly? Our can you keep a copy to 're-flash?
