Now that Cyanogen Mod has begun to release their 'nightlies' builds, has anyone here tried it on their Nexus?
Upgrade from 10.0 nightly to 10.1 nightly totally borked my installation. Generally in-place upgrades are fine, but if you want to go 10.1, I'd do a wipe and clean install.
No, I just wiped and went back to stable 10.0.Did you read CMs tips for how to fix it?
I installed the update via the CM Updater... flashed, then flashed the Gapps I've been running for CM10 and subsequent builds... suddenly everything went haywire... first I kept getting the "unfortunately setup has stopped working" pop up and couldn't do anything but pull down the notification bar... restarted several times... still no dice... so I tried to wipe... got stuck in continuous CM boot animation... booted in recovery and tried to flash another ROM I had saved... same thing... continuous boot animation.. at last check about 3 hours... any ideas on how to fix this?
also... apologies if this is in the wrong spot... just figured since we were talking about this ROM....
I have recently gone from Dinc to the Gnex and am thinking for the first time to root and run custom ROM on a device. I am thinking of going with CM 10.1 nightly but am wonder do I need to reinstall every so often to get fixes or do they come over the air?
For your first ROM, I would try something a little more stable. I'm not trying to bad mouth CM, they just released 10.1 though, and there's been a few bugs reported (there's bound to be bugs-a-plenty in a ROM's first few releases on a new version of Android).
If you are looking for something more stable, try either XenonHD (quite a few mods, similar to what CM would have, if not more) or MMuzzy's stock 4.2.1 build (very close to stock with just a couple mods). I've been on both and they're both great ROMs.
CM 10.1 is still a viable option, just be prepared to read through it's forum pages for warnings and fixes for bugs.
Thanks!
Starting to get a little cold feet on the custom ROM's.
Once installed does the device get notified of any updates/fixes?
Sourcery ROM does - none of the other ones do, to my knowledge
CyanogenMod does as well. I have flashed each of the nightly builds from the CMupdater application built in and have had zero issues with this ROM. It is incredibly fast and stable.
Same here. For a new release its really stable and fast

By updates are you referring to CM or from Verizon? I assumed that CM incorporates anything we'd get from Verizon. Is that correct? Thanks.
I am referring to the CM Night lies from CyanogenMod. I dirty flash them each night along with the 21212012 GApps. I wipe cache & Delvik and the flash. With those two files you should have everything that you need. Not sure what Verizon gives you (bloatware?), but this will work perfectly on Verizon's network.
Are you pulling down gapps each time you get the nightly? Our can you keep a copy to 're-flash?
