Help WiFi Hotspot without Root?

WiFi Hotspot is only possible two ways (that I know of):

1) Root and run either a Gingerbread ROM for native hotspot, run ICS Sense with a third part app such as Barnacle, or run ICS AOSP (AOKP) with native hotspot.

2) Subscribe to Verizon's (way overpriced?) WiFi Hotspot feature and gain access to this feature natively without Root.

If you choose to Root and run ICS Sense, you will likely not be able to use native hotspot as it requires a compatible kernel and we currently do not ahve one. To gain one would require an official release or some willing to heavily modify the current leaked ICS Sense kernel, which would require a lot more know how and time than most people I know have.

Be careful how you approach tethering as it is against the TOU for Verizon without paying. There was a story about a person who had a suit thrown out because they had a tiered data plan and the court decided that since that person was paying for a specific amount of data each month, then they could use it however they saw fit. However, unlimited plans are not included in the finding and could still violate the TOU.

If you're on Verizon and willing to give up unlimited data, I'm pretty sure the hotspot feature is free for Verizon's new Share Everything plans. This page says so in a few places. Search for "hotspot".

I recently switched to the new plan and I also have a DInc2. The day I switched, I tried the native hotspot app with a tablet and it worked great. I haven't hit the end of the billing cycle yet, though, so I don't have concrete proof that they won't charge me for it.

Plus once you're on a limited data plan, you have to watch your usage carefully or they'll charge you $15 per GB overage. Depending on what you're using the hotspot for, your usage could go up quickly. Luckily they have text alerts for when you hit 50%, 75%, 90%, and 100% of your allowance.

I'm on 2.3.4 did you change both places? What issue are you having?

tried everything, reprogrammed the phone with *228 and it set all the email addys back to original tried again no luck. Deleted my foxfi and pdanet and still no luck, took all my files off my phone and did a hard restart and retried all the instructions still no luck. im about to throw this POS against the wall. Anyone have any other ideas? I am about to try rooting it. maybe at least revert back to 5.something. idk i really just wanna do this so i can decide if i need to buy a tablet with 3g/4g capabilities or if i can hack this wifi. i have unlimited data on my phone and itd be sweet if i can get it to work. I dont wanna run around with a usb cord running to my pocket to tether that way all the time.
