Help with rooted SGS2 please.

Hi guys :)

Sorry if this is in the wrong section and sorry if this question has already been asked.

I recently purchased a second hand SGS2 from CeX, I attempted to update it to the latest software and failed. Then after days of Googling, I found out that it's actually rooted. It doesn't connect to Kies either, but I'm assuming that's a separate problem.

I joined this forum as a last resort because it is starting to frustrate me a little, I'm not good with things like this. Is there any way I can unroot it at all? Or, is there any way I can update the phone without unrooting it?

Should I just take it back to the store and explain the situation to them? Although, they might think that I've rooted the phone and then I won't have a leg to stand on as I have no proof that I purchased it rooted.

Thank you. :)

yes.. you can try to take it back...so that you can get the update. Most likely that is the last OFFICIAL update for that phone.

or.. keep it rooted.. so that you can keep get new updates from the Development Community. This is called "flashing ROM". New ROMs are always coming out. if you are interested, read a little more on the subject. also rooted phones have other benefits as well.

Oh wow thank you for the fast replies guys.

I had a gander in the settings on the phone and it says I'm on 2.3.6 Gingerbread but Google says there is an ICS update or whatever it is for the S2 and that's all I was trying to do. I'll take it back on Saturday and see what they say. If not, I would appreciate the assistance very much. Thank you ever so much again. :)

this all depends on the Carrier you are on... and what that carrier has official pushed out as and upgrade for your phone.
