Another Fire HD, another problem

I seem to be missing the mark with these devices. The first one, 7", Sent back do to a battery issue, needed charged constantly, finally replaced it about a month later for one that seems to work and stay charged better.

I get myself a paperwhite, to find it has some glitching issues where it will jump to the end of the book at times when I go to the next page. Still not a huge issue, but annoying. I got my dad a paper white, I hope it don't have the same issue, or a fix is coming soon, he is not tech inclined at all. We will see.

Then I got a 8.9" fire HD for my mom, got it when it was on sale, open it up, get it set up and load a sample book up to give her a quick overlook of the device and first thing that catches my eye is a white spot slightly smaller then an pencil eraser. When in portrait mode, the bright smudge is near the bottom of the page, very visible in the white pages of a book, in landscape, it will be in the text.

I know this is not my kindle and my mom will be using it the most, but I suspect the spot may interfere with her books, games and movies. And knowing the spot is there is going to annoy me, because if I pick the device up, I will automatically look for it.

If I send it back, I suspect it would be around 2 weeks before we get another. A refund where I can pick one up at best buy, well, I used my amazon card. On top of this, gift cards where bought for content on both the fire for my mom and the paperwhite (books only) for my dad.

Sure, they can use the apps on the android tablet, but that is mostly for books. I would need to install the amazon app store for apps (but its limited) and getting tv shows and movies, is nil.

3 kindles, two fires with issues, a paperwhite (one so far, mine) that jumps pages at times), this really puts a downer on things.:(

Sorry to vent, but this is annoying. I know these devices are built cheap, and amazon makes its money through services and content, this kind of put a damper on things.

Wow, Aj. You are probably one of the unluckiest guys around with Amazon.

I own a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 32gb with absolutely no problems. My wife owns a Kindle Keyboard and now a new Kindle PW with no problems. Just gave my father a Kindle Fire 8.9 16gb for Christmas and no apparent problems yet. I will keep my fingers crossed. But we did use his Kindle last night to watch "Captain America" for free from Amazon.

Sorry for all your problems. I hope the curse leaves you very soon because I know you will thoroughly enjoy your Kindle Fire HD's if you are clear from the curse.

Man, sorry to hear about your problems.

I have a KFHD 8.9" 32gb. The main issues I've had with mine are software issues. Usually reseting it works.

I'd see if I could contact Amazon and see if they can give you a free Kindle or Prime for free for a year or something... this is kinda ridiculous.

Last night we tried several times to download a sample only for it to seemingly not register the click. Powering it off helped, but kind of a bummer to have to do this. It could have lost wifi but it did not say anything and I was able to visit a web page.

On the bright side my paperwhite has not glitched (yet) on my latest book.

I will give my mom a few days with hers and see if it is acceptable for her. If it goes back, I will not get another...

Got a 7" KFHD for Christmas and, while I was planning on getting a Nexus 7, I am loving this thing. Have an old kindle which it is replacing and it is quite an upgrade. No problems thus far except I can't sync my Google calendars but that's no big deal. May get calendargoo to solve that.

I am syncing with my Google Calendar using the default calendar on my Kindle HD. I set up my google mail with the default mail program on the Kindle HD and told it at that time to sync with my google calendar too. Worked like a charm.

Are you using a different email connection other than gmail? If you are using google mail on the default mail program on the HD, did you check to see if you have a check beside the google calendar to tell it to sync? Since it worked so seemlessly for me and I only have google email, I may not be able to troubleshoot it too much for you. I will try as you need me.
