Help Tab 2 slow external card speed

Hi - My wife and I bought two P3113s for Christmas. Her's seems faster when accessing anything stored on the extSdCard (off-line maps, music, movies, books, etc).

I installed SD Card Tester and was surprised by the performance results on the external sd cards.

Tablet 1, card 1: write speed= 6.1MB/s read speed= 14.9MB/s (avg of 3 tests)
Tablet 1, card 2: write speed= 5.9MB/s read speed= 14.7MB/s

Tablet 2, card 1: write speed= 5.7MB/s read speed= 5.7MB/s (avg of 3 tests)
Tablet 2, card 2: write speed= 5.6MB/s read speed= 5.9MB/s (avg of 3 tests)

Regardless of the card used, Tablet 2's read speed is much slower. I reformatted each card in Tablet 2, re-ran the tests and had the same result.

Can anyone tell me, Is my tablet slow or is my wife's tablet exceptionally fast?

If someone else wants to try this, here is how I did the test.
1. Install SD Card Tester (free) from Play Store
2. Go to Task Manager then Ram manager and press Clear Memory
3. Start SD Card Tester
4. Set path to /mnt/exSdCard
5. Leave file size set to 300MB
6. Press Start Test and wait for completion
7. Write speed is on the left, read speed is on the right
8. Run test two more times and average times

Any help would be appreciated.

Technical notes:
- Both tablets are running 4.0.4 (UEBLH2)
- Both cards are Sandisk Ultra 32GB class 10, UHS-1
- In SD Card Tester, the path was /mnt/exSdCard using a 300MB file size (using larger files gave the same result - it just took longer to complete each test)

I factory reset tablet 2 - no change at all. This seems to be a hardware issue.

I'm beginning to wonder how many Samsung Tab 2 7.0 tablets can actually take advantage of the class 10 speed. A friend brought a third unit over and it could only go 6..7MB/s!

Anyone else actually measure the performance with a class 10 card?

Ever tab may have different speed, may also depend on other running apps.

Some spread is expected. I would expect a variation of 1 - 3MB/s. However, the test is designed to minimize variation by using Task Mgr to stop background apps.

These two tablets have the same exact apps loaded, run same OS and one is constantly 3 times faster.

I beginning to.wonder how many other units can read more than 7MB/s?

I ordered your card, so I'll find out how fast (or slow) mine is in a few days.

jwither - With 20+ years of computer experience, I try very hard to be exact and consistent. With that being said, I think I may be a moron.

I heard the last thing you said and went back to make sure I was not that dumb. Both of my tablets gave the same range of external card read speed - 6.3 - 6.7MB/s. Apparently, I am. I can not duplicate the 14+ MB/s on the external card.

All three of the P3113s I tested gave consistent 14 - 15MB/s read speed on the internal memory. I think Samsung used a class 10 memory for the internal memory, but the access for the external card is clearly different (buffer size, PIO versus DMA - something).

However, I think we can say I screwed up on this one and move on...

Sorry...
