I just receives my nexus 7 for Christmas from girlfriend and I absolutely love it! With that said, how come I see this error all the time in the play store? I've noticed this on plenty of apps, including adobe flash and whatsapp messenger. Why is adobe not allowed and will these apps be updated to be compatible with this device in the future? Thanks!

One downside to a device on the latest OS is that since 85% of devices have an older OS, the apps aren't updated for the latest version. As for Flash, Jellybean does not support flash (in favor of HTML5). I do not expect that to change, however there are 3rd party web browsers that render Flash sites on the server and send them to your device converted. Still, I love my Nexus tablet and have found enough apps that do work with Jelly bean to keep me happy.

I had no idea Android was moving on from Flash to HTML5. I thought Apple was the only one with beef with Adobe.

But usually you would think that app makers upgrade there apps to support the latest updated systems. Oh well.

Did you see this thread? It sounds like the issue with WhatsApp is that it requires a phone number which the Nexus7 does not have rather than an OS incompatibility. But it looks like there is a workaround...

As for Flash, I think the entire web community is moving forward with HTML5. Most developers familiar with both FLash and HTML5 will tell you that Flash is a dying technology. Not helpful for existing Flash sites, but I think you'll see less of those.

I have flash running on my /7 version 4.2.1. I think the problem is only with Chrome. I use Opera and flash works flawlessly - e.g. for YouTube.

It's a little strange when you go to android.com/android momentum with the latest version on a N7 and you see -Chrome for Android does not support this plug-in.

If that's flash, then no.

Flash is a dead technology. It's just taking Web developers forever to move away from it

It's curious that a flash object would be on the android.com web page.
Its also curious that this web page is displayed quite differently by Opera mobile and Chrome

Simply side load flash and either firefox from the play store or an older version of dolphin.

It's got nothing to do with Google having a "beef" with Adobe. Adobe announced they were abandoning all development on Flash for mobile devices so Google decided not to support an abandoned platform. You can still sideload Flash player and it works fine except not with Chrome.

I get that because Jellybean is newer some things aren't compatible, but I use Jellybean on my Note 2 and can us several apps on my phone that I can't on my N7.

I can do lots of things on my phone that I can't do on my Nexus 7... because it's not a phone ;-)

Many Android apps were made to only run on phones, it's as simple as that.

Flash compatibility is a big problem that's being addressed over time (sloooooowwwwlllly). For example, with the apps I'm interested in, the BBC only very recently launched a flash free version of iPlayer and we're still waiting for the next version of 4oD, ITV Player and so on.

Personally, I'd have preferred if Flash's life had been extended into Jelly Bean (it should work anyway but isn't supported). I guess Google and Adobe decided against this to get certain App makers to "Get a move on".

You obviously didn't read any of the previous posts. The lack of Flash on Jellybean is not some conspiracy by Google to piss people off and make things difficult. Google has nothing to do with it. Adobe decided to abandon all development and support of Flash for mobile devices so Google decided it wasn't a good idea to support a dead platform. If you sideload Flash Player it works fine with everything except Chrome.
