Help Mp4 files play fine on Galaxy Note II but not on Computer

I have taken a few movies that playback perfectly on my Note2 but when transferred to my computer the files do not play correctly. The video is very jumpy and the sound is not synced. I am able to play other MP4 files fine using MC17, Zoom Player and VLC on my computer so I dont think it is a codec problem and it is just the movie files from the phone that dont want to playback correctly trying all three of those programs. Any help is appreciated.

I've been trying to do a bit more research about this and it may be that the video card in the computers that we're trying to use can't handle the hd video that the note 2 creates.

I've logged a customer service request and will come back if they revert with anything helpful, but that's what I think it is. I'm using a 4 year old laptop which was a fairly basic model when bought.

As I stated in the OP, I find it strange that I am not having problem playing back other MP4 videos on my computer with any of the 3 programs I normally use (Zoom Player, VLC and MC17) All of these programs are usually good at playing any files that most other programs have problems with ...... it is just the MP4s that are taken off the SGN2 that are choppy and the audio is not synced. I just dont know what the problem could be

It is possible that it may be a codec problem. Probably the codecs used in the mp4 is causing the issue. You have to remember that mp4 is a container and not a codec.

Try Quicktime. I had problem with mp4 movies on other players too, but Quicktime usually works the best.

If thats the problem I wonder why more folks are not reporting the same problem. I find it strange that I am not having problems with other MP4 files on my computer.

Try Quicktime. I had problem with mp4 movies on other players too, but Quicktime usually works the best.

I had quit using QT a long time ago because I dont like how it tries to control everything and usually Zoom Player will play anything, but I am desperate and decided to try QT again. The files seem to play just a little smoother even though it is still jumpy and the sound is just a bad(out of sync) as with Zoom

These are the codecs the Note 2 uses when encoding into the MP4 format.

As you can see, this uses the latest codec also known as Hi10P. I know when this first came out, many players choked on it. Even I had issues with it when I was trying to play it. So unless you updated your codecs, you will have issues with playback. I have updated my codecs and can play it in Windows Media Player with no issue. I also use VLC, Media Player Classic and TMT5. I am using the latest CCCP codec pack.

Thanks for your help. I downloaded the latest CCCP codecs as you recommended but Im a little confused how to get them associated with Zoom or VLC. Do I need to do anything specific to get them updated into these programs. I tried using the Media Player Classic that was included with codec pack and it doesnt work either. It is almost like the videos arent buffering correctly. It might be my video card starting to act up. It has got some miles on it.

You don't need to do anything more with CCCP after installation, should be automatic.

Can you test your vids on another system and see if it'll work?

I havent yet but that is my next step.... Ill let you know the results. Thanks again for your help/suggestions!

Another thing you can try is to record in a lower resolution (anything lower than 720p) to see if your computer can handle it. I forgot, VLC and possibly Zoom use their own codecs for decoding I believe. Make sure the software is up to date on them as well.Though I rarely use VLC now since WMP/CCCP combo can handle anything I throw at it. Only thing it can't handle is external subtitles.

Thanx Neo........ The main video I am interested in preserving and playing back is a video I took of my 86yo Mom on Xmas day that I wanted to be sure I could save. Im not sure how many more Xmas' videos of her I will have a chance to get.
I will try lowering the resolution for testing, but I really think the problem with this particular video is probably my old Radeon HD 3650/512mb/AGP card. I havent had a chance to try the file on another computer yet but will asap.

Yeah, I updated those codecs before posting when I first encountered the problem(even before CCCP updates).... no luck though.

Yeah it sounds more like dated hardware that is causing the issue if software side is all updated. Either way, word of advice. Make multiple copies/backups of the vid. Won't hurt and it'll give you some peace of mind.

Use VLC player to convert to other formats.Then play it on PC to see if it works.

How's your computer on watching Youtube 1080p videos? If it works on those, you could just upload your video from the Note 2 to youtube. When you open the video on phone, you could select share on top and select Youtube. It will ask you for account but you could just your google account and it will let you upload to youtube easily. Once there the default setting is private so only you could see it. It does take a while to upload though. I have a 18 sec video and it was about 30Mb in size.
