Just finished flashing. Per CMB's instructions clean install of course,I flashed the ROM then gapps from op then pa preferences then reboot I set up Google account let ROM sit for 10 mins then booted into recovery flashed my tb update zip reboot opened apps and made sure data restore went OK all good boot into recovery flash SK gapps reboot now I'm here posting lol all good so far I have uninstalled some apps via play store via manage apps I side loaded a few apps uninstalled them no reboots so far and none of any kind will report as day progresses if there is anything to report

What ive notice when I use this Rom is when I want to listen to music it crash until when I force it close restart the app, it work...

Yup. It works after. But later when i try to play music again it crashes until i force it close than restart the app.

Just flash through fastboot like you did with twrp. Here is the 4ext img

Just put it in your sdk-tools folder or wherever you have adb and fastboot. Use adb reboot bootloader to get into fastboot usb mode then use fastboot flash recovery 4ext_recovery.img to flash the recovery.

here's some observations.

short version:
- mediaserver chewed through my battery pretty good today, could be my npr app acting up though
- taking video consistently causes reboots
- either i don't know how to use catlog (i am a newb here), or it doesn't jive with the 01/01 build. (although after reading the 'how to' DonB linked above, i did not manually end my session from the night before, although i didn't think i'd started one)


long version:
initially, I clean installed from the 12/24 build. used TB to restore couple dozen apps. only flashed the gapps in the OP. (i'm still not real sure wassup w/ the other guys sk gapps mentioned somewhere in this thread, i haven't had a chance to read to whole thread yet, would cmb rather us be testing with the sk gapps?):
- camera seemed to take forever to lead but never, rebooted unless I was taking video
- battery life seemed a little worse (coming from a fairly early CleanROM build), but I was using a bit over christmas. but this is not too reliable, i havent found the quick settings app i used to use and like to keep my screen brightness in check.

on 12/31, i flashed the 12/31 (01/01?), although not clean, just wiped cache'n'dalvik, flashed rom, wiped cache'n'dalvik:
- ran solid for couple days, only reboot, which was consistant, was when I was taking video
- two nights ago i installed catlog, thinking i'd try to catch something for the video issue, but newbness won and was unsuccessful. after charging all night, went to work and battery just cratered within an hour, and the phone would boot up again, stuck in pacman boot screen. even charged in rocovery to 50% batterey, wiped cache'n'dalvik, still stuck in boot screen. had to nandroid back to 12/24, then flashed to 01/01 this morning,
- today the battery seem to run down quickly again although not as quick, maybe 8hours (i did not install catlog). it was mediaserver, was the highest user. perhaps the npr app i listened too on the way to work was acting up?

Yes, it will just replace your current recovery. Just note that you won't be able to restore a twrp backup on 4ext and visa versa. So once you replace your recovery, i would recommend a new backup! In a pinch you can always re install twrp if you need to restore a twrp backup so no worries!

i hadn't updated my firmware in ages, build was still something...651...something. the build appropriate for when scrosler threw out CleanROMv2.9 a few months ago.

i hadn't updated anything before flashing this ROM 12/24's build. i saw that the build number changed after flashing, so i figured i was good. right?

also currently have
baseband=1.06.00.1216
am i missing something there?

Yes, it will just replace your current recovery. Just note that you won't be able to restore a twrp backup on 4ext and visa versa. So once you replace your recovery, i would recommend a new backup! In a pinch you can always re install twrp if you need to restore a twrp backup so no worries!

BTW what's the different from twrp and 4ext? because some ROMs need 4ext and not twrp...I'm just curious what the advantage of it.

Lol this is a forum (a place of discussion) there's no thing as too many questions! No worries man!

You will notice a huge difference between twrp 1.1.1 and 4ext. One major difference is that 4EXT is touch screen capable. No more volume and power buttons to navigate. Twrp has a touch Recovery now that I haven't tried but with our phone, 4ext seems to be the most reliable. Every one who switches instantly falls in love with 4ext. Plus it has an optional paid app that comes in very handy. You won't regret switching.

One of its largest benefits is for s-on users. It has a feature called smart flash that let's s-on users flash roms that would cause bootloop on other recoveries.

I'm sorry, but i honestly am not sure what you're asking? Sometimes a rom will change the build number that your phone displays but I don't think it officially changes your mainver number...?


As far as the baseband, i think depending on location people have different preferences on what radio is better. I am also on the same baseband as you... Didn't notice any major difference between this one and the updated one.

I would start with the free version first, you can always upgrade later, as for the 2 recoveries, most Roms work better with 4EXT rather then the TWRP or CWM. Much more user friendly and as Brian mentioned has the S-On flash feature which is pretty neat. Also as much you can, I would recommend when going into recovery, that you do so the manual way and not from within the 4EXT app itself. You can download an app called Quickboot, that will allow you to get into recovery or bootloader at a click without having to put the wear and tear on the power and volume buttons.

at some point (perhaps couple to few months ago i believe), right around when sprint released an ota (which i never did anything about), i thought i saw some rom's floating around around that stated in the op that the rom required a certain build number before it could be flashed. i didn't have time to learn what that meant, and just stuck w/ good ol' CleanROM. Now i finally had a bit 'o' time to try a contemporary rom out, and wasn't sure if I needed to do anything regarding firmware before i did; that maybe dev's now assume everyone had updated by now, which I never did.

too, all of this is based a on my, perhaps false, understanding that the "build" number is the "firmware" revision, which i thought might be separate from the rom itself.
