I tether my eris to my pc via pdanet. never do I tether with wifi on. I just use mobile network to surf the net...

Can my boss or IT guy see what I am doing? I use chrome in "incognito mode" so my surfing trails are not saved. Also I know there is no keylogger program of any sort on my pc I would know...

CAN THEY IN FACT SEE WHAT I AM DOING!!!???:thinking:

He said I needed to stop using my wifi stick to gain access to the internet...I never connect to wifi. only mobile network through pdanet.

If this is against your work policy in any way (which it sounds like it is because your boss questioned you) do NOT do it. You are just asking for trouble. I don't care if you are trying to get around it with a technicality (using mobile rather than wi-fi). Just don't do it.

I understand its against policy...My question is can they see what I am doing? Do they have to physically come to my pc and look at history, which there wouldnt be any b/c of the fact I use chrome incognito...

Monitoring of systems, be it a system on their network or not is easy. If its your personal system, and no one else has had access to it don't worry.

If the PC is a work PC, this is completely possible, and in business environment today quite probable. Don't do anything on a work PC that you wouldn't do in front of your boss/mother/thepope.

This dude sounds like the android forums reincarnation of your boss.

The fact is, he probably can't see what you're doing online but just found out word of mouth that you're using your phone to access the net. Lesson learned: be more sneaky.

If your connecting to the company wifi yes they can see your traffic without getting onto your PC or phone. It's also possible they can still still your 3G traffic and your connected to the company wifi if they don't have split tunneling turned on.

Anytime you connect your phone to your PC, you open it up for your work to see whats on there. I used to work for GE in the IT department and we would do daily scans of the network and pick up all kinds of goodies that people had on their phones that were simply plugged in via USB to charge from their work computer. Even if your incognito or not you have to really know what your doing to completely cover your tracks, They can see, nobody narced you out, you popped up on some scan somewhere when you were tethered up.

They may not have a key stroke logger but there might be some other software running that you don't know about that does things like screen captures. My recommendation is either dual boot or go into safe mode and do all your wireless surfing through there.

If you are doing this on a computer that is owned by the company or one of their desktops then your boss can see everything you do including screenshots, every page visited, etc. Spector Pro is one software that one of my family members used to check up on a daughter
It phoned home and was pretty much impossible for her to find. Companies use this all the time.

If you work for a big corporation with a real IT department you're probably not going to have anything to worry about as far as monitoring software. They most likely use a bluecoat, ironport, barracuda proxy where they get their logs. This means that you have to be connecting through their network and their proxy so if you have your connection to the corporate LAN unplugged you're fine. Now if you have your phone tethered and you're still plugged into the corporate lan all your traffic is probably still going across the proxy because your default route is most likely pointed to your wired connection. If you want to check, open a command prompt and type 'route print'. Your 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 route is what you will be looking for. One thing they could ding you on is having the PDAnet software installed on your work pc. Your boss was just covering his ass telling you to stop using your phone. Do yourself a favor and don't get caught, don't let it give them any reason to fire you over it. Get your same amount of work done and don't be reckless

There's a reason he's questioned you about it, and that's because they already know what you're doing. You should take that as a warning and stop immediately if you care about your job. Being a network admin, there are plenty of programs that can be used to monitor user traffic, especially if you're connecting to a work domain with a login and password.

Eek! I do this all the time. I don't have anything sketchy on my phone, but I'm still a little weirded out. I never say yes to mount/synch options when I connect my phone, but "Removable Disk (E: )" does show up under My Computer. However, when you try to access it it says "Please insert a disk into drive E:"

Does this mean my IT people can still access data on my phone when I have it connected to charge?
