I need some help. I got a replacement nexus. Everything was working great until I decided to unlock the bootloader and root the phone, which wiped everything even storage. Well I got everything put in since I did make a backup of my old phone. But my package installer is gone. I was able install apps from storage before I unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone, but now I can't. I know you can get astro or something to do it, but I shouldn't have to do that, never had to before.

Anyone know what to do? I'm on jbs 4.3.

Honestly, I don't understand your issue. Once you root the phone and install a rom, what is it you are trying to do?

I am just trying to install an apk that i downloaded on my phone. Unknown sources are checked. But when I click on it to install it I don't have the "package installer" to install the app, it's missing. I've tried various apk files. When you click on the apk a list of apps show up so you can choose how u want to open the file. For me i'm missing the "package installer" in that list.

Here is article if u scroll down to Step 5 u can see what I'm talking about.

ericks17, I do not believe your problem has anything to do with this rom. And looking at the link you provided, I must say that if nothing else, you _might_ want to use the contact info at the bottom of the page.

The problem with using that tool is twofold. The person who posted that guide is on Sprint and it was made with an Android version that this phone has never had, so things are going to be somewhat different. The main thing is what you found, the missing "Package Installer". That might have been just a Sprint thing, as I have never seen that when installing .apk's on a VZW android phone. And another thing I thought of, is that since this .apk was written for 2.2, it might not even be compatible with 4.2.1.

I am really tempted to move your posts to their own thread since it is not related to this rom, just let me know what exactly you would like me to title it; otherwise I will title it "Problem side loading an old .apk"

Let me know

Simple. Get es file explorer for free off the play store and install your apk file from there. That's what I do.

@Ericks

You should be able to just select an .apk housed on the sdcard and it should give you the option to install. So try using a file manager as mentioned above. Yeah that tutorial is outdated. It shouldnt be that complex anymore. If it is, let us know and we can try to pin down why you can't select and load an apk of your choosing.

I wasn't trying to install that particular apk or use that guide. I just linked that to show u a pic of the "package installer". So u could see what I meant.
