I have had the S2 for a couple of weeks, and a couple of days ago I started getting a warning from the app Battery Monitor from fsinib. The phone shut down once. It gets good and warm but not too hot to touch. I am not using a case. The phone is not rooted. OS is 4.04 and everything is up to date. It has happened several times in use and also while charging. The in use was running two GPS apps for jogging side by side. The battery does not appear deformed. I called Radio Shack support that comes with the cell phone, they had me take the battery out while the phone was on and wait one minute then restart. This has not solved the problem, if in fact 111.2 F is too hot for the battery. RS support was fast and helpful. They are going to call back tomorrow to check if still happening. I can still return the phone if I must. I have read about runaway apps but I have all of the apps installed on two different tablets and never had a problem.

How to test for runaway apps? In battery settings the screen is about 70% the OS is about 12%.

Someone posted that a car charger that is outputting only .5a as opposed to 1.0a is bad for battery. How is this? If the battery is overheating is it pulling too much amps?

The battery is the phone's most sensitive component.

The Li-Ion battery's temperature operating range is:
for discharging -20C (-4F) to +60C (+140F).
for charging 0C (+32F) to +45C (+113F).

The battery won't be charged if its temperature is below 0C (+32F) or above +45C (+113F) because the phone's charge controlling will project the battery.
Therefore it'll shut down charging until the battery's temperature will meet again the charge operating range.

So your phone's battery was too hot for charging ... but was not above its operating temperature :)

I had another overheating event and returned the S2 just days before my return time expired. I replaced it with a Nexus 4 from Google and use on Solavei. Solavei thus far is good, Google support not so much. Now that I can compare the S2 and the N4, the S2 is a very nice phone. If I would have known Google lied about the OTG USB support I would have stayed with the S2 and its SD card, removable battery, and Samsung quality.

Having read up on the Nexus 4, I would never get a phone that has no SD card ability. The battery being bolted in (not easily replaced by user) is also an issue. The phone also lacks sturdiness.

I put on GA 10 and the modem and now it gets so hot, I went to the store and 30 minutes later came home and it was 120f. turn it off and took battery out. also I turn it off to charge and a yellow caution sign with a thermostat started to blink? I use it 20 minutes and have the battery is gone? I do have app kill so I use that to cut back on the cpu ram? where can I find CWM not on cwilco1

Did you do the one click install of GA10 or one of the custom installs. I used the one click install (the install does everything modem included) and my phone never gets overheated.
