I've got a ? About this shared plan nonsense

It essence, the plans state that you will pay 40 dollars per smartphone or 30 dollars per dumbphone on the plan. This gets you the unlimited minutes and unlimited texting. Since their policy is that all data enabled devices MUST have a data plan, you then get to choose your data "bucket." This starts at $50 for 1gb, $60 for 2gb, and from there $10 extra per 2gb. A rip off, I know:(

That's crazy...I'm on tmobile with the nexus 4 using the $30 monthly 4g plan(100min talk, unlim text,5gb data) and that's not because it was cheap because thats I wanted and needed, I don't talk much...I hope Verizon can learn from other company's they'll get more people from middle class/blue collar workers..$100+ a month can be towards a lot of other things...

Yep, I've been on Verizon for a very long time and current have a 5 phone, unlimited data plan that I'm pay through the nose for. I'm really glad to see that other companies are starting to offer 'sane' price plans. As soon as my kids (currently all college age) are off on their own I will be ditching Verizon for something more realistic. They have great service but their prices are quickly becoming out of line.

It's true. My phone bill should not be more than my monthly car payment.

Verizon Wireless Says 9.8M Smartphone Activations In Q4 - Forbes

Verizon this morning said in a filing with the SEC that its Verizon Wireless unit expects to report Q4 retail postpaid subscriber net adds of 2.1 million

Even with VZW's pricing they added 2.1 million customers. It's like suggesting Apple should lower iPhone prices so they could sell more iPhones.

A rip off? Maybe for some, but people need to realize that it's good for some.

Me for example. I have 4 lines on my account...was over $400 a month...10GB share everything plan dropped me to $290...$110 savings.

Must be a rip...

Indeed, it looks like this plan is really good for you. I know for people who had unlimited minutes on the old plans saved money on these plans just about every time. However I know people with bare minimum minutes, unlimited data and either no text or low text that were paying 65 a month, and with this new plan they're paying least 25 more. These plans really screw over individual plan customers which is what the op is. They seem to be alright for large family plans. I know for me personally, if I were to switch, it would cost me 20 extra a month, and I'm already paying 220 a month. :(
Can't wait to not be paying more for my phone bill than my car payment.

bull issshhhhh. Current customers before June of 2012 were able to keep whatever plan that they had and go up and go down in tiers of their plan. They were never forced to change plans with VZW. They were forced during upgrade if they unlimited data to either go towards 30 dollars for 2gb or share.

Here is bare bone pricing with VZW old plans for grandfathers customers

450 Talk for 39.99
250 Text for 5
Unl Data for 29.99

75 bucks right there.

Share everything

Unl Talk and Text 40 bucks
300 mb data 40 bucks

80 bucks ritght there and Wifi is everywhere.

Lets look at the old plan pricing for 2 smart phone users on a basic phone calling plan.

700 Talk and text Plan

80 dollars for the account, 10 bucks per line. Thats 100 dollars right there.

29.99 unl data and 29.99 unl data comes out to be 60 bucks.

Thats 160 dollars for 2 lines of service.

Share everything plan.

40 bucks per phone equals 80

1gb of data is 50, 2 gb of data is 60, 4 gb of data is 70

That comes out to 130, 140 or 150 compared to 160.

It's all about supply and demand. You get what you pay for. I have seen a ton of VZW customers and everyone I know who has VZW saved money by changing plans.

Add me to he list of people that saved money, and I was coming from a 1400 minute plan, not unlimited.

EDIT: You are right though, for one line it's very expensive.

And new customers who walk into a VZW store and want to have 1 iphone or 1 Galaxy Note 2 know that they are going to be paying minimum 80 bucks per month for the plan. Nobody from VZW is forcing these people to sign up for the contract and accept the plan with a gun to their head. People know up front what they are signing for. If they cant afford it in the long run, that's not VZW's fault or responsibility.

One more thing before I go.

I see alot of people cry about VZW pricing than they look at ATT and Spring pricing and realize it's all close together. You get what you pay for. Do you want to spend 100 bucks a month being able to use the Iphone 5 on the VZW Network with 4g LTE and be able to use your phone 99 percent of the time.

Or would you rather pay 50 bucks a month for some wack boost mobile phone that was relevant in 2010 standards and have your phone work as intended 50 percent of the time? You might be saving money but if your phone connection is dropping calls left and right, text messages aren't coming in and your phone cant stream pandora when you want to listen to music on your commute. Well you are throwing 50 bucks down the drain.

WTF is the secured line fee of $40 and 2gb $60 mean? What if its only 1 device?

It's called the share everything plan because the plan unlocks free of charge the mobile hot spot feature on your phone that was a previous 20 buck per month charge before. That enables you to use your phone as a wireless modem and connect other wifi enabled devices to it and use your data plan allowance with vzw.

Which is why even for 1 line it's called share everything.

You just compared an unlimited data plan to a 300 mb plan that now costs $5 more. And you don't see why people think it's a bad deal?

And wifi is hardly "everywhere".

Ooooooo and 1 last thing. The plan is genius by VZW for several reasons.

1. For the majority of customers it's a more affordable bill with vzw compared to previous plan pricing. This increases current customers happiness with VZW by being able to change their plan and save money compared to previous plans.

2. It forces all customers onto unlimited talk and text plans with VZW. Non unlimited plans had overage rates ranging from 35-45 cents per minute after your plan and 10 cents per message after your plan. That quickly added up if you weren't watching your usage. The benefit for VZW is that they don't have upset customers calling about their bill and several hundred dollars in overage. The other benefit is that customers aren't calling to care or going to store upset about their bill and wanting adjustments.

3. It pretty much forced reps with VZW to educate their customer on how to monitor their usage and bill via MY Verizon, the app or the data widget. Also lead to reps educating customers to connect to Wifi when available, stop streaming apps that you had no intention of using. This leads to less strain on the VZW data network.

Win-Win situation. Which is the reason why ATT followed right after because it was a brilliant idea.

Wifi is everywhere. Work, School, any restaurant, library, fast food joint has access to free wifi. Not my problem if someone lives out in the middle of nowhere.

That 75 buck plan was bare bone pricing for previous customers.

450 minutes? 250 Text? That is beyond bare bones. Customer goes over 50 minutes that equals 22.50 in overage at 45 cents per minute. Customer goes over 100 text, thats 10 bucks. You would be surprised how many people have overage.

80 bucks minimum with VZW for a new customer and an Iphone isn't that expensive. I hate to say it, but if you can afford to pay for an Iphone, you can afford the bill. If you cant afford an Iphone, nobody is forcing you to buy one, sign up for a contract and a minimum 80 buck plan with VZW.

Same thing applies for a Car. If you can only afford a Toyota or a Hundai, you dont go to a Benz, Audi or Lexus dealership and try to be balling.

Verizon is the apple of ripping people off in the carrier world

Well if that is the case, how come VZW signs up more customers than they lose? How come VZW has the highest retention compared to any other cell phone company? How come VZW has the highest amount of return customers? How come VZW has the greatest amount of added customers compared to lost customers?

I dont make this stuff up. You guys act like Sprint and ATT and T Mobile are saving new customers 100 bucks a month compared to VZW pricing.

I'll take prepaid T-Mobile for unlimited data and texts (5gb of data before throttle) and 100 minutes for $30 .

Hello voip and data services.

Fact of the matter is the carrier landscape is changing, and Verizon is fighting a losing battle as more and more people aren't willing to pay up.

The shared data plans was the last straw for many.

You are basing this off of what facts?

Largest install base. VZW.

More new customers. VZW

More customers gained than customers lost. VZW

Unless you know how to cheat the system and jail break phones, you aren't going to get a phone you want on T Mobile prepaid.

Most people use far more than 100 minutes a month.

Verizon 3Q profit rises, bolstered by wireless - Yahoo! Finance

As of October 2012

Revenue increased 4 percent to $29.01 billion from $27.91 billion. That also matched analysts' expectations.

Verizon Wireless added a net 1.5 million devices to contract-based plans in the third quarter, more than it has in many years. Analysts were expecting it to add about 900,000. Including non-contract devices, overall additions were the strongest in four years.

VZW after adding new plans. Increased Revenue, Profit and Customers.

Yup, that share everything plan was a colossal failure.
