To the community and MTDEV,
Our FAQs are a collaborative work. I will be working primarily on them since I have plenty of time currently, so expect one to pop up for MTDEV CM9 and maybe MIUI or sharp even one day. Anyone who's good with designing stuff, feel free to comment and once I know there are people willing to do some design changes and make it look all pretty I will make a public FAQ that anyone with the link can edit. Since mistakes do happen, I will keep a backup of the original FAQ revisions I made, so in case something goes wrong (like the whole document gets deleted by accident or someone decides to be an ass and just troll us and delete our document for no reason) we are not really up a creek without a paddle. I trust you guys, but you never know. The internet is like Medieval Europe, you venture out of safety and then come the looters and pillagers. I mean, if a spammer found it, they could always use it as a spam billboard. I am all about open source but I am sick of seeing open source projects hijacked and abused, so I will have a backup. If anyone sees vandalism of these public FAQs, report it. Vandalism happens over Wikipedia, so it may happen to the FAQ. I don't want to have my hard work ruined, no anybody elses'. Public editing is open here:

Update 1/14/13:
I am busy working on the content now. All are free to contribute. I am adding notes and screenshots, and adding more questions. Also, work on a CyanogenMod 9 FAQ is ago. I am also thinking of adding instructions on removing the boot sound. Remember, if you all did not assist me, we wouldn't have such kickass documentation. This is not copyrighted. It is copylefted! In a good way. I want all off you to consider it part of MTDEV's work, and you are free to remix it and share it, just dont charge people a lot for it, delete anyone's name from the credits, or do something that even copyleft licenses won't allow. This means that anyone part of MTDEV can include the latest non-draft version with it (that means your Chairshot215, g60madman, Bsydz, dsmryder, b_randon14, etc. Heck, you can even include a draft version link, but I don't recommend it, since it will not be 100% complete. Yes the stupid codenames are necessary. :D They make me feel useful. :) Sorry no updates in a week or two except formatting, I was very sick. But there were still plenty of new questions and answers added early on compared to the last massive revision!

What's the purpose for formatting system under Mounts & Storage? I've never formatted the system and installed dozens of ROMs so far.
It seems to depend on the user's experience. I always format them, since when I didn't /system got huge after a while with busybiox backups and backed up apps to the point that I couldn't update Adaway or BusyBox (/system partition was low on space). But as you said, you can go quite a while without formatting it and be fine. Only format it if you need to, I guess. g60 and others have encountered root issues when formatting /system between ROMs. The only situation where I see formatting /system as a necessity is on MTDEV CM9 and up where space on that partition is rare (ICS and up take up a lot of space for just essential system components compared to Gingerbread or Froyo).

FAQ beta update out. Gonna need some help with regards to screenshots (that will save me some time). I prettied up the formatting of the FAQ, and it is nearly production quality ready. It just needs screenshots. If you know your way around well enough, read and enjoy the help! If you're a n00b, wait for the screenshots, refer to the old release, and ask on the forums if you need help. PDF coming up ASAP.

No help is needed for now, just eat your lunch. :) Tony is assisting me with rewriting the FAQ. We will take both of our versions and try to merge the questions and answers into one, then screenshots will be added, whilst preserving his formatting redesign. The issue is that with screenshots, I need some of CWM Recovery, and an emulator cannot run a custom recovery. The phone has no way to take screenshots whilst in recovery mode. The SDK when I last used it shown a pink overtone on the Triumph, but it could take screenshots of recovery mode. What I need is something that can perfectly capture a recovery screenshot without bugs. Screenshots are simple and easy to take from within Android.

I was just thinking. You could fake screen shots with MS Paint.
Make a black screen, overlay the images from the source and fake the text in. That could also work good the download mode.:D
