how to exit Chrome?

seem like a stupid question for someone who has been using Android for 2 years...

But how do you exit Chrome?

Currently I exit by pressing the home button, then go to task manager and terminate Chrome there. And if I go back into Chrome and hit the back button it would just keeping on taking me back to the previous page and not exiting the program...

And this happen with all other programs, I think Android really need a "exit" button, all we have now is back, menu, and home, none of then actually terminate the app directly, which is kind of stupid...

That's how I exit Chrome, as well - or any other application for that matter. Before I upgraded, when I was on Gingerbread, if I kept hitting back, it would back me out of the program completely, and when I reopened it, it would be at the "home" screen. Now, unless I hit home and terminate the program, when I reopen it, it reopens at the last page I was viewing. Not sure it matters, but being a windows user for almost a lifetime, it feels wrong somehow not to have the programs actually close.

Then it shows up as active application in task manager chewing up ram, that's not closing the app.

Exactly. Just close tabs and push back, and it never shows up in running programs.

Nope does not terminate Chrome even with all tabs closed, still active

How are you looking at running apps? because if you are looking at it via the multitasking button from the homescreen, it will always be there because its a history of the last apps you opened. Closing all tabs on Chrome on my Tab eliminates it from running services.

Try waiting a bit, like 5-15min, and see if its still running. It may have just been closing some services connected to it (like GPS, camera, etc).

If CPU is at 0%, there's nothing to worry about. It's just cached so it will open quickly. It will be removed automatically once more RAM is needed.

agreed cause i learned that if i tried to control all the apps running after i closed them i was just losing a war with no ending lol. SO like kennected said i just let the OS take over and it worked itself out in the long run.

What kind of os that praise itself on customisation but can't close an application after quitting lol.

You're over thinking this. Really! Let it go and let Android manage your applications.

And if you have any task managers downloaded to your device, delete them.

I'd say no - I simply have a different want or usage than mainstream, so a lot of this just annoys me. I can root to get rid of a lot, but not all of Google services. I don't need them.

I use Boat Browser, and both Startpage and Duck as search engines. I simply won't use Google. Their suggestions don't work, half the stuff is not relevant, just popular.
So why reinforce bad behavior just from popularity?

Chewing up RAM is not a bad thing. The way Android manages your system resources is that if there is unused RAM, Android may actually use that RAM to load an app that you are likely to use in the near future. Android anticipates what apps, tasks and processes you are likely to use in the near future and will load them into RAM. That way, the phone is more responsive when you need to use that app because it is already loaded into RAM. If it is an often used app, Android may just keep it in RAM because it is better than having to unload it and then load it back in later when you need to use it.

From my understanding the all of your RAM uses power even if it's not being used by the phone. So as long as you got some RAM free it's all good. As for closing chrome, I keep on hitting back until it closes (I don't hit home so it closes within a few presses) but closing the tabs and then hitting back works for me too. Just did it and it didn't show up as running. If anything Android will close apps when/if it needs too.

I know I'm over a year late giving this answer, but this thread comes in the first page of google search results, so I'll give a solution here.

An easy way to close Google Chrome is through the url chrome://quit
Because you don't want to type it in every time, just open a blank tab, press your menu button (the off-screen one), press the star on top to add a bookmark. Give it any name you want, and the address chrome://quit
You can use that bookmark to close it every time.
