Root ROM with Bluetooth voice dialing?

it's just so stupid. Driving to work and I still have to fumble with my phone like a frakking caveman.

It's so stupid!

I agree. One thing that has helped me is a widget called Tap Dialer. I have my important contacts loaded in and when I need to make a call I tap the widget once for home, twice for work, etc. Works great and for me has been the easiest way to make my calls without staring at my phone. It is a good low-tech fix until voice dialing for Android sees the light of day.

Until we get the real thing, there's a great app called Voice Dialer HF Voice Dialer HF for Android - Tools, which has far better voice recognition that the stock Voice Dialer and it speaks back to you to confirm who you're dialing.

You have to tap the app to start it, but it's a lot better than anything else we have right now. If you're using Car Dock v2, you can put it huge-sized on your main car dock screen (along with 5 other apps/shortcuts of your choice). Or you can just route it to long-press on the camera button, so you hardly have to look at the phone to start it.

If your car doesn't have bluetooth support you can always get a bluetooth speaker with built in LCD that supports phonebook transfers. I know walmart sells 2 of these for about 50 bucks, one mount of your steering wheel and the other to your visor. The steering wheel mounted one looks pretty good and has arrow keys allowing you to navigate through your contact/missed calls without taking your hands off the wheel.

It won't come from Moto, unfortunately. They've more or less said the Droid will not be getting BT voice dialing. If we get it, it'll come from the hackers.

I don't get why they treat the Droid and the Milestone so differently. Milestone gets all these fancy apps and BT voice dialing. Droid doesn't (haha see what I did there). But the Droid can be rooted, so I'm good with that. Hopefully this will turn out like the Milestone's fancy apps did; we'll rip them off and put them on our Droids. :D

So who do we have to pay to get this done.

Don't know why, but I have bluetooth voice dialing on my Moto Droid! Could it be Launcher Pro Plus? I just happened to try it yesterday and it worked. I pushed the talk button on my car's steering wheel, and lo and behold, it asked me for a command. I said, dial by number, and i pushed it again and said the number, and then was able to dial with another button on the wheel.
