Hey, I'm soon heading out for the night
but my friend has an omnia 2(i had the first one and it traumatized me from really ever wanting to use any omnia or windows mobile device every again)

and really likes my eris and for the short time i played with her Omnia 2
i liked hers and she wanted to do a trade...

Now i know alot of people here(OTD, Wally, Frisco, Smacky, etc.)
seem to know a lot about phones...

Just wondering, in your opinion if you had a chance to use the omnia 2(not one)
what are the pros and cons when comparing it towards the eris

Thanks guys,
Hope you all are having a great friday night...I def plan to lolz

Carmen

The Omnia 2 is a sweet phone. I almost got it instead of the Eris. I didn't because it's terminal. It won't be upgradeable, and because of the drrastic changes in Windows Phone 7 most devs are going to be writing programs for that platform, and leaving WinMo 6.xx behind. I think Microsoft didn't read the signs and fell behind. They may pay dearly for that in the mobile arena as the iPhone OS and Android continue to innovate.

I had the same version of WinMo on my omnia 1 that the O2 has, actually a build or two better because they were later evolutions of the 6.5x. There is a lot you can do with ROMs because it's easier to manipulate. BUT it was less capable than the Android OS, even unrooted. I spent a lot of time making my Omnia act like my wife' Eris. I could get it to do the same things, but it was a lot of work, and the features didn't always work quite right. On Android they just worked. The O2 is more powerful than the original Omnia, but the OS is pretty much the same. It's just not as good as Android, and having used WinMo for the better part of a decade that is saying a lot coming from me. Not to mention that apps for the Omnia are significantly more expensive than apps for the droids.

Well I almost bought an Eris, and i played with the Omnia 2 in the store. The Eris is a solid phone IMO and, this could just be the store model but, the Omnia 2 was VERY VERY slow! The Eris was lightning fast compared to the O2...I had the O1 and good lord it was terrible...I just can't stand WinMo, but that's my opinion lol. Oh yeah, O2 comes with Swype which is AMAZING! I just put it on my droid and I'm never looking back! Good luck with your choice...it's pretty much WinMo vs Android and which you prefer!

Personally i prefer webos over both
but after playing with the omnia 2(it takes beautiful pictures)

that phone is horrible and worse than my eris
and I am so glad i didn't switch lolzzz

it's just as bad as the 1st gen omnia

I really don't like the Samsung widgets. I don't know why but they seem redundant and clunky.

I also think that if you are on a WinMo 6.anything device you are on a sinking ship.
Verizon is supposed to be releasing their Windows Pink phones soon which will make their prior phones archaic.

I'd stick with the Eris. If you trade you'll miss all of us!

I agree with carmendiva, I like the feel of webos too. I wish that wasn't dying either. It could have been huge if it had been released on Verizon first. :(

It is sinking. I really thought the pink phones were feature phones, not smartphones, but I don't really know that. WinMo 6.5 is terminal, though the guys at modaco and xda keep making new roms out of leaks of later builds. I really wanted to stay with WinMo because I have a lot of years invested in tweaking the OS, and there is a HUGE development base for it, but it is sinking and sinking fast. Winmo 6 should have been much more of a major revision for it to be competitive, but it's really version 5 with a different interface.

while i'm not using it right now, I own a Omnia 1, I don't understand what everyone thinks is bad about it? personally, I liked it better than the O2 (to me, the camera worked much better on the O1). aside from that, I liked using it, I still do use it as a camera/wifi device/media player. I am upgrading soon (next few months) and was going to get an Eris (for price reasons). but now I see by the time I am eligible, the Eris will be no more

lol yeah the Samsung widgets are rather lame to me although i do look how i can pull them out without having to go into the main menu like on my eris

and i never heard of the windows pink phones......

But yes i'd miss the majority of the people here. I love how i always have a private message in my inbox when i log on :)

nice ppl here...almost everybody anyways

and yes i love webos...its my favorite os of them all and i miss my palm pre(i sold it to this girl and now i regret it haha)

i love the multi-tasking, cards, and just the way everything syncs together

i'm sad now...with this eris lol

I loved the omnia's camera

it was my first 5.0 camerphone lol

I hated
1)The Virtual Keyboard
2)Memory, Memory, Memory...For some reason(i guess because it's window)
i would always get a message telling me i couldn't send a text message because i had low memory and no matter how many text and emails and apps and pictures i deleted i still had low memory
3)Call reception...horirble
4)the ui
5)apps(lack thereof)

overall it was horrible

Personally, I loved my omnia with a passion, however eventually I figured out that flashing the OS every week just wasn't a feasible replacement for having a fully functional smartphone. Yes Winmo 6.5 was cool, yes it worked better on the O1, and should have been pushed to users, but the problems I had with Verizon's software choices while having this phone were not the best. Locked gps and only verizon nav software on a phone that was built to have unlocked and free a/gps as well as the fact that for the longest time that was only available through leaked software. This experience alone makes me wary of Verizon's plans for a 2.1 Eris. Call me a doubting Thomas, but like I said, my experience with them through the O1 lead me to doubt all I hear from them...
That being said, the O2 does seem to be a much better phone that the original O1 and while I haven't used it yet, the Touchwiz UI hasn't changed much since it first came out, and I prefer Sense UI. 1 vote for the Eris.

Awww the flashing every other day was what made my Omnia fun! I miss that bit of choice. Of course if I hadn't been impatient and installed the leak I could be rooted now and flash to my hearts content...LOL
