I just got the Optimus L9 from T-Mobile online (I could only get the $30/month plan w/unlimited text & web, & 100 min. voice from their website.) It is my first smartphone, and I was looking forward to downloading apps. However, the phone did not come pre-loaded with any google play store. I called t-mobile's tech support, and he was baffled why it wasn't on there. I spent 30 minutes on phone with him. Nice guy, but no solution. He had me put a google play URL in and said it might add it to my apps in 72 hours. Nothing so far and I doubt it will work.

After speaking to him, I went to a google play webpage that listed "supported devices" and it did not list the LG Optimus L9, nor by its model number P769.

Why would a recently introduced device not have a google play app? And what is my best alternative for downloading android apps? I'd appreciate any advice.

You should have the Google Play app store. Remember it's called Play Store in your app drawer. Otherwise can you please post pictures of your phone and your app drawer

Is it disabled via Settings - Apps - All? Seems odd that an Android handset doesn't come with Play pre installed.

It does come with the play store pre installed. Either something is wrong with the software on his phone or he has a problem finding it. Since this is his first smart phone I'm going to guess there is just something wrong with what he's looking at. Either he has the wrong phone or he is not looking in the right spot for it.
