It might depend on hardware support... currently microSD supports up to 4GB, and microSDHC support from 4GB to 32GB. MicroSDXC may be required for capacities beyond 32GB. I do not know what the EVO 4G supports hardware wise, but I just wanted to point out that firmware is just one part of the equation to support 64GB and higher capacities.
Note: I have not seen an microSDXC cards anywhere, but microSD is just a sub-format of SD cards and SDXC cards are currently being produced for newer digital cameras.
There were some firmware / driver updates for older SD card readers that allowed them to address SDHC cards. My old IBM laptop shipped with a reader that was SD ready, but later had an update that allowed it to read > 2GB cards. I believe it was the same with my PPC-6700 phone that I had before my touch pro.
Assuming the electrical contacts are the same on SDXC cards are the same as SDHC, it's feasible that a driver update could allow use of SDXC.
If it's a different physical pinout on the new cards, then no amount of driver updates will fix it
