Change notification sound for Viber?

Hey guys... Mega Android newbie here, only had my phone for 3 days...

I use Viber tonnes mostly for sending text messages to my husband and I can't find a way to change the msg tone... is it possible? Cos the current one really isn't very good, I can't hear it when phone is in my handbag or even if I'm upstairs and my phone is downstairs, I want to change it to the same notification sound as my normal SMS messages. Can this be done?

Thanks in advance.

The message notification ringtone is loud and a default setting.

What's more of a bad design is that the notification buzzes even when you are on the viber message window which is totally unnecessary!

This issue is known to us, and has been requested to be changed by other users as well. We are checking the possibility of altering Viber's ringtones and message notifications in future versions.

That's a relief. I couldn't really count on Viber for notifications. I love the fact that I can call, but it doesn't allow me to know if the person I am calling is even online. It just rings.. then the user gets a bunch of missed call messages when they get online.

About knowing if the other side is online or not:

When you use Viber, you can tell indirectly if your contact is online as follows:

When you make a Viber call, you will first see "Calling". It will change to "Ringing" if your contact is online and their phone is literally ringing.
When you text, "Delivered" means the message has been received on the other side's phone (they're online). If you only see "Sent", it means it's been sent from you, but pending the other side to come online (they're offline at the moment).

In the future we might add an "Online" status message, but we still don't know when this will happen.

Hey guys,
Just got the new Galaxy S3 (Upgraded from a Nexus) and noticed that Viber plays message notifications really loudly even while your on the phone. (This is annoying as hell)... I don't know if this is a bug or not but I do not recall this happening with my nexus. I'm now trying to figure out how to change the sound associated with the notification but I can't find an answer for the life of me. The only solution I have is to force stop the application when I'm not using it so that I don't get interrupted and annoyed. Anybody have a clue?

Please note that Galaxy S3 is not yet officially supported by Viber - we are working on official compatibility hard these days, and we hope to release a fully compatible version soon. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience :/

Meanwhile, we invite you to take a minute and report this issue to our Support Team, so it can be properly checked. You can use this direct link: Your ticket details | Viber Support

Please note that Viber does not officially support your device yet, and that may be the reason for the problems you are experiencing. Here is the full list of officially supported devices: Is your Android compatible with Viber (system requirements)? | Viber Support

We are continuously working to adapt Viber to more and more devices, and we hope to attend to the problems with your device soon. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I also have problem with contact, why i can't see my friends who are using viber? I want to send message to him via viber, there is a message this contact doesn't use viber yet but they are using it. How can i solve this problem?

Hi,

The source of this issue could greatly vary. Please read this short page in our HelpDesk, outlining some possible workarounds that will help reboot synchronization of the contact list: iPhone: Contact list is not showing your friends as Viber users?

(The instructions refer to iPhone, but are relevant to all phones nevertheless).

* You may also instruct your friend to read that page and perform the steps outlined there.

On march 8 (7 months ago) a user started this thread because a vital feature is missing from Viber.

Namely the posibility to change notification tone and volume of the ringtone.

Is this feature still not implemented today, 7 months later ?

Right now i only use Viber to relay non-critical or "does not need immediate answer" because of this problem.

If i need an answer and need to know that the receiver has received the message i still use SMS because of this design flaw.

Please tell me that you are competent enough to impletent such a basic feature in less than 7 months. ?

Hi,
Unfortunately this feature is not yet available.

You are right - technologically, it is not an impossible task to implement the options you mentioned into our app. However, please bear in mind that you are not the only user who requests features from us among our millions of users worldwide
Aside from that, we also have other projects running in our company, like Viber on whole new platforms, for example.

All of the above doesn't mean we neglect our users' requests. Adding the features you mentioned is certainly on our list of development, but we still haven't had the time to fully develop them and/or test them thoroughly before releasing.

We apologize for the temporary inconvenience, and we hope to complete these features and implement them soon. We'll certainly keep you posted with news :)

I have to agree with hmadsen. This should not be treated as a new feature but as a known bug that needs to be fixed. I appreciate the service you provide but if I am going to miss important calls and notifications then the app is really useless to me. Every other app I have installed that has a notification feature has a way for me to either change the notification or the volume of the default notification. Can't be that hard to do it.

@grnclvrs -
In our latest update we added the option to use your Android's ringtone for messages and calls (over which you control through your Android, naturally). In future versions we plan to also add an option to fully customize those sounds.
We apologize for the temporary inconvenience, and we'll do our best to introduce the new feature as soon as we can.

Hello Viber Team and thanks for a great free app for calls and texts! :)

Just wanted to ask if there is a chance to remove that annoying sound for incoming message when I'm in message screen? Sound notifications on that stage are pointless, as user is already looking at the screen! :)

It's just a simple ON/OFF checkbox, do you think you can implement it and make our lives a lot easier? :)

Thanks,

Viber Team,

Are you aware that installation of Viber on Android 4.2.1 causes Low Storage Space for no reason? Despite of actually having lot of available resources?

Customizing Viber's notification sounds is on our list of development.
If all goes as planned, it should be implemented in one of our future updates.

Please understand that we are receiving many, *many* feature requests from all of our users worldwide, and we're trying to incorporate as many features as possible, as soon as possible. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience, and we hope to bring you good news soon.
