How to install and app after zipping the file

i have edited a few of the files for an app which requires me to change the .apk to a .zip. after editing, i zipped it back up and resigned it. now i am having trouble reinstalling it on my phone. i have tried renaming the file to .apk and it doesnt work. after opening the file on astro it shows as xxx.apk.zip

any help?

don't unzip it in the first place - open the apk as if it were a zip file, take out the file you want to edit, make your changes, drag it back INTO the apk via 7zip or whatever you have and then re-sign it.

i found another way. not sure if its the easiest but so far its the only things that worked
1. change .apk to .zip
2. extract the file
3. do editing
4. create archive of the 6 files contained in the extracted folder from step two
5. sign it
6. open in astro and rename the file from .zip to .apk and install

after you signed it I think you can do adb install nameofapp.apk
But i'm not entirely sure on this so don't quote me.

i think root is required for that. i need to close this thread. ive had it orked out for a while and already have my custom apps posted. thanks for trying though

No, root is not needed because its installing it to the data folder which even not root users have access too, otherwise how would you install apps?.. adb install is the same as using astro or something like that to install something.
Now if you're talking about a system app like htclock or something then yes you need root because that app is in the /system folder.

ya thats what i was talking about. sorry i got my threads confused, i was talking to another person about a way to edit HTC widgets/apps
