HTC Problems still around?

Hello Everyone! I'm sorry if these questions have already been asked but I'm curious. Currently I have a Virgin Mobile Kyocera Rise and I'm Looking to buy the HTC EVO V but I'm scared because of the constant bad reviews about radio issues and texting. I seen that there has been a couple updates to correct these problems but did it fix the issues completely or is the phone still experiencing issues? I enjoy playing games on my Android device and right now I can't do a lot of gaming with the rise as it cannot handle it.. Will the EVO run games smoothly with no lag or issues?? Any feedback would be wonderful from you guys about this phone!! Thanks.. Rebecca

Service isn't bad anymore thanks to the radio update, although a fix has been available for a while (check Leslie Ann's fix everything by turning your phone into an Evo 3D thread in Root) for root users. Currently, I'm using the VM fix, and it works fine. The Evo V is a beast when it's rooted, but it'll still handle games fine unrooted. Only problem you'll have is battery life- 3hrs of screen on max on the stock battery. If you get an extended battery, most people get 5-6hrs+. To be honest though, I'd suggest paying extra and get a Nexus 4 on T-Mobile.

Where to begin... I was really close to crushing, shooting, breaking in half and pretty much mutilating this phone from the day I got it. Texts wouldn't go through. Calls wouldn't go through. People would call me and say they'd been trying to call all day etc etc. If wifi or 4G was turned on the phone would randomly lose signal and not be able to require without restarting the phone.

Then I installed the update and this is now a wonderful device! I have had wifi and 4G on since I installed the update and my service has been rock solid since. I can now make calls where I previously could not. I get 4G signals in places where I couldn't before. And most importantly, I can now make calls anytime I want without restarting the phone. This is huge if there's ever an emergency and time is critical! I don't have 5 minutes to wait for a restart!

Sorry for the book but yes, it's a great device now and I say go for it!

The text issue has been resolved and for $150 I don't think that you'll find a better specc'd device, it plays NFS Most Wanted perfectly. :p

It DID play it perfectly until the update they released on January 18th. It now says not compatible for lots of phones...including ours. I guess they are working on it, but I had to get a replacement Evo right before that update and I go to install it and BAM! Not able to

Thanks everyone for writing and telling me stuff.. Is the updates for the phone located in the settings area where you would normally go to update it? or is it something you have to install from a website?? I really want to still buy this phone but I'm scared, I don't have 4G service and was hoping to use it on 3G.

Where can I find one?

actually just tried it and i kept getting 'app is not available in your country'... you can try playing around with market enabler...
market enabler ---> Downloads - market-enabler - Android Paid Apps Market Enabler - Google Project Hosting

I've had it installed for a couple of months now, using my Titanium Backup for app and data across multiple roms without any issues. I just launched it for the first time on Unlocked Potential and like always it said checking server for update and launched and played great. OB

I got the update but recently have been getting the sms error again. Actually as I type this I sent an sms and it has not gone through for the past 3 minutes and counting.

That might be the network, the update besides the radio also changed the way that the phone reacts to network errors, before, after 30 seconds of the message not being sent due to network problems it would throw the error message, now instead the phone keeps trying to get a signal /slot and resend. Just because you have signal bars doesn't help if the network near you is congested and there's not an empty slot on the tower. Remember that we have lower priority than Sprints customers. OB

Same for me, actually. Since I did the fix in Leslie Ann's thread I have had almost no issues with the signal, but within the last week or two, I've had texts that take forever to send, and also a few error messages.

Then you must now have gotten the same update I did. Like I said, I was literally going to set this phone up on a target range and shoot it with my rifle! And I was going to take great pleasure in doing so. But this update transformed the phone into a usable, reliable device!

Hello Everyone, I really appreciate everyone's comments and things about the phone, I've decided I will take the plunge next Friday and buy the EVO V, I am really excited because I want to be able to play some basic games like Bakery story and Maybe some Sims freeplay if its available for this device.. Right now loading a game on my Kyocera rise is a pain you play a little it stops then a little more and stops and so on its so annoying, I use my phone for calling, emails and games for the most part but I am hoping the texting will at least come threw to the device.. You guys have been really helpful but one more question if I may? Did anyone get the purple EVO and do they sell them at best buy in the stores?? I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.. Rebecca

Hi Rebecca and welcome aboard :)

As far as the purple one, I'm not sure...I got mine at BB and its the black edition...it was the first I grabbed.

You COULD buy a back cover that's purple white or whatever off of amazon or ebay, if that would work...shouldn't be more than 4 or 5 bucks.

I bought the Evo V, after having the One V and the Triumph. I couldn't be happier with it.

My wife has the Rise. There's just no comparison when it comes to the crisp display of the Evo and how snappy it's operation is compared to the Rise. Don't get me wrong, the Rise is a great phone and rock solid dependable but IMO it's an entry level phone and a great phone for texting with it's slide out keyboard.

most of my issues with my evo v have gone away, but once or twice a week, my phone will start to get really hot, then i also will notice 4g can not be turned on, then within 45min usually my battery is dead. even from half full or more and barely using it, maybe a few texts thats it.

otherwise phone is probably the best bang for the buck out there for no contract phones

You are probably having an app that has gone freaky... I suggest taking a look with a task manager to try to identify it. But for a low-tek solution, periodically reboot the thing. It only takes a minute or two and will probably fix it, temporarily at least.

Since the update my battery goes dead halfway through the day if I leave 4G on. Since 4G signals are scarce around here I can just leave it off unless I travel in which case I'll plug it in.

Best phone I've ever had.

I rooted it and did S-OFF immediately, and followed the "Fix everything by turning your phone into an Evo 3d" thread.

Installed a radio update, did an audio boost in QPST, and I'm running the Harmonia rom. I've tried different roms, but for me this one is by far the most stable and the best as far as speed and such go. I'm also running Juice Defender Ultimate, and I get about 16 hours of battery.

maybe but i kind of doubt it, i pretty much only do the same basic things with my phone everyday, text, web browser, phone, gmail, alarm clock, camera. thats it. i dont have a ton of apps.

seems very random, almost like my phone is all the sudden having trouble with 4g or switching between technoligies and the processor starts to over heat

I use the phone for about 1-2 hours of talk time, a bit of texting, some web browsing and some GPS usage, depending on the day.
Ok I see. I have only ever had a few hours of usage with the stock battery, but I use my phone a lot: constant texting, and web browsing, mostly, with a few phone calls. I've tried other ROMs too and they were never a huge improvement. I bought an extended battery, and it makes a huge difference. But lately I've wanted my phone to be more slim again, and I'm at work anyway where I can use a charger all day, so I went back to stock battery. And it's like night and day to witness how quickly my battery dies without the extended one.
