Why do you want a Chinese copy phone?

Cost. That is the only reason. Typically this is the only upside to these devices.

I did write a big thread regarding them within this forum. It's actually one of the stickies.

I'm not sure. This being a support based forum they usually just cause confusion and headaches when people have issues and don't realize its a fake

In this part of the world(China), it's usually because people can't afford the real McCoy, but they still like to brand whore.

Right, because "face" is very important to many. However it seems a lot of people not from China would want these kinds of phones too just because it's cheap and probably for the same reasons too. After reading Digital Controller's thread on this issue, buying one of these is really you get what you pay for.

Glad you have heeded my warnings about these devices. And we are not trying to simply tell people that these devices are bad, we are trying to help you, the members, from making a bad decision about these devices because if anything is wrong with them we will not be able to assist you in fixing it because the device is simply unknown

Some people might tell you that their Off-Brand device is the best ever....but sometimes things go in your favor, and other times they don't, we would just rather see you spend your money on something that is more guaranteed to work.

Not interested in copycat phones but I did buy a copycat tablet. It's an Ainol Novo7 Venus/Myth which is a Nexus 7 clone. Why did I buy it? Because I didn't know of a name-brand device with all of the specs I want (minimum dual-core Cortex A9 1GHz CPU, 1280x800 LCD, microSD card).

I already have a Nexus 7 so it will be interesting how the Novo7 Myth will compare. At the very least, I figure the Myth would probably work better than the Nook Color+CM9.

Ah yes, that is true for just about everything. Some people might get lucky and their off brand might just work just as well as the name brand ones.

OK if they're readily available in the local stores and markets(I'm in China), so you can pick-over them, looking for a good one. Bummer though if you have to ship it all the way back to China at your expense, that's if the vendor is even interested in RMA and returns. And if a vendor is trying to shift counterfeit iPhones, I can assure you that good customer service is not a high priority for them.

From daily hands-on experience, these things are way more often bad than they are good. And will frequently have serious show-stopping issues, like bricking and DOA.

Lol, one reason I've got a hard limit of $150 on these things (unless I can source them from a US seller). If something goes wrong, I probably won't even bother trying to get an RMA. There are plenty of interesting-looking China tablets for $250 but that's way too much to spend on something that might end up dying after 3 months.

Ainol is actually a reasonable Chinese brand, and do support their products.

Their devices seem to be OK, not to Nexus standards though. They're certainly not blatantly copycat, like "Goophones" or "HiPads" or whatever.
