Help Should I get a moment to try out Android?

Someone locally is selling a 1 month old moment for $200.

I currently have a pre and am eyeing the EVO when it comes out. I've never used android so I'm curious.

So saw that moment for sale and with 2.1 being released around the corner (or at least from what I've read) figured maybe get it to use for a couple months.

Thoughts?

I went from a BB Curve 8330 to my Moments. I was eyeing the Pre myself when I was looking, but something about the Moment just drew me to it over the Pre. I was pretty set on getting the Pre as well going into the store.

I had a curve 8330 and bought a pre launch day. I've been happy with WebOS but the hardware for me leaves something to be desired. I have no issue with WebOS itself but I'm just so curious about Android. Figured the moment would be a good phone to get my feet wet.

A lot of sites (*cough* engadget *cough*) troll relentlessly for WebOS, and while it's very pretty and still has the best multitask management I much prefer Android. It's simply more flexible (widgets, folders, notification system, etc) and of course the apps available are much more numerous and of higher quality.

And of course the hardware is much better. The moment has kind of an annoying battery cover but other than that is decently solid, whereas my Pre was flimsy from day 1

So I bought that moment. Been playing around with it and I gotta say, so far, I'm pretty impressed with android. I really like the gmail app and the google integration for google voice is really slick.

I'm not a fan of landscape keyboards and the key layout is a little funky but it's definitely usable. Since I'm going to be highly considering the EVO when it comes out though I'm going to focus on the usability of the onscreen keyboard.

Of course the moment is using stock android and the EVO will have sense, but I think this will definitely give me a taste of android, and I'll even get to try out 2.1 when Sprint gets around to releasing it for the moment.

Anyway, looks like I'm going to be here for a while :)

I had the Pre and it was a good phone dont get me wring. I loved the mulitask feature with the cards. But Android is so much better. I left me Pre behind and got a Moment. And the Moment is a good phone but I just traded my Moment for a HTC Hero. But as long as you have an Android phone you'll be all set. If I were you, Id save that $200, stay with the Pre for a few more months till the summer, Then just buy the EVO.

Congrats! You don't have to wait for print to make it official to try out 2.1. At the very least, make sure the phone is running cl14. To check, menu > settings > about phone > baseband version. If baseband version ends with cj05, go to the update page and download the updater. You can use the same updater software to install leaked 2.1 . There's no rush though, enjoy your new toy.

Welcome to the board, mate. Make yourself at home :D

And don't let the Gremlins get to you... They do say things worth listening to from time to time

One of the first things I checked when I got it :) It was already running cl14.

I've read about the leaked 2.1 updates but being a newb to both this phone and android in general I'll wait a bit before giving that a go.

I've already been showing off the barcode reader and shazam to my gf (who has a pre) and I think she is getting a little jealous. Which could work out well, when it's time to get the EVO she can take the moment :p We'll see how that goes.

A sensible approach! I wouldn't wait too long, after using the leak for a couple of days I can now say that the improvements to the phone app and how it interacts with the lock screen alone are worth the effort and the few bugs the leak contains. Besides, if a simple barcode scanner makes your GF jealous, Google Goggles will blow her away.

Nah, not really small fingers but I come from a blackberry background and have become very proficient at a portrait keyboard.
You want to blow your girlfriend away? Do a search in the forum for swype!!! This beats texting in a heartbeat!!!! she will really be jealous and impressed! There is a Samsung commercial swype look up in you tube, and every time i use it around iphones guys around me the are always hatin on me!!!! lol
Try it, i hardly ever use the qwerty keyboard anymore...:D
