Nexus 4 vs HTC Desire??

id appreciate some thoughts i just ordered a nexus 4 (16gb) and i currently own a HTC Desire (normal! not hd s or something else) i was wondering would i notice anything different?

the desire though it has been loyal, has been a PITA as times! (mainly internal memory warning,
the screen looking like watermarked / pixelated (should have been returned) thus making videos and any blacks not look black / have a gradient!
freezing / corruption issues (not sure if it was me / phone / card / normal)
sure there was something else such as the internal memory warning to justify my upgrade!

anyways is there anything im going to notice? or not notice? on the nexus 4?
im assuming it SHOULD be better in every respect however maybe im wrong?

battery regards id appreciate it being a little better, but i can get through a full day with my (slightly curbed) usage so im praying its at least the same??

Durability? im paranoid about dropping the Nexus 4!
the desire bless it has has a few drops even though ive been really careful. so far it only has a couple of scratches on the back the screen is fine! and had it for years!!

finally to end with a really STUPID question but ive googled (honest!) and cant seem to find examples. what is sense on the htc phones? such as this pop up, or the clock, or the cool snow thingy that happens when its below freezing.

I used to have a desire. You will notice a huge difference in speed. The screen is a lot better. Battery usage will be noticeably better. Also you will have tons more features with latest jelly bean software.

I use my nexus 4 without any protective cases and I haven't noticed any scratches. I've not dropped it but I've heard a lot of people damaging the glass from drops so be careful. It's the slippiest phone I've ever used, even on virtually flat surfaces the phone manages to slide off so beware!

Sense is the name given to HTC's customizations on top of the android software. Coming from the desire which has an old version of sense you won't miss in on the nexus 4.

That is fantastic news, im even more excited for it to arrive now!
i foresee this being a long two weeks! however i feel for those who had over 8weeks at launch. fingers crossed it will not happen!

awh thanks for the heads up so maybe something on the back (sticker or something) just to stop it sliding might be worth me looking at then figure out if need a case, like you im not a fan!

awh thanks for explaining that about Sense, everything ive read i just couldnt apply it to what i know and i did not want to risk rooting and flashing a custom rom just to figure out what it is!

I also came from a Desire to the N4. I loved my ol' Desire, but like the previous poster says, the N4 is way, WAY better.

I had no idea how slow my Desire was until I got the N4. When it took ages for websites to come up, I blamed the network. With the N4 on the same network, the web is super slick. For me, the battery has been better than with the Desire, but then the Desire's battery was almost 3 years old ..

The size did worry me a bit, but now when I've dug out the ol' Desire, it feels tiny .. and ancient .. and SLOOOOooooow.

I also thought I'd miss Sense but in fact, not a bit. The stock tools work fine and the screen is so lush anything would look good. I thought JB with different menus and only 3 buttons would take some getting used to, but in fact it took no time at all.

JB also has some really nice features - I really like Setting including data and battery usage tools - which I'm sure you'll love.

After around a month of usage, I have (touchwood) had no issues with the N4. I left the plastic on the front and back so I haven't noticed it being slippy.

I'm know you're going to be as delighted with your new phone as I have been with mine.

If you're a big or even moderate apps user you won't miss Apps2SD and even running out of space using that and having to manage what you have installed - go nuts!

As for other things. I see Sense as a negative. I find it clunky, drab and that it slows the phone down a bit. Sense served a purpose when Android was less polished itself but now even HTC are toning it down.

The screen is both better and noticeably larger.

I'm sure you'll be pleased with what is an upgrade in every sense *gets coat*

still trying to get it set up how i use - call confirm app, homescreen etc...
having a nightmare with contacts though if anyone catches this and thinks they can help im going to post another question about this on the main page.

I came from HTC Desire to the N4 too - although my Desire is routed so the transition was less of a shock to my system than it might have been. But night and day is all I have to say.
The Desire was top of it's game at one point but is just clunky and old school nowadays. The N4 is now top dog and rightfully so. My only gripe with it is the native browser Chrome - I just don't get on with it. I was using Maxthon on my Dessy but dropped it to check out Chrome on this. Got fed up with that very quickly and I'm currently using Boat (with good results so far) but it irks me that I must have Chrome installed even though I will never use it... I guess it goes back to my Dessy days where you cleared out every non-critical app to free up space.
I have a Diztronic case on mine and it feels safe as houses... plus it no longer slides off seemingly level surfaces anymore.

I also moved from a standard Desire to Nexus 4. Much faster and yes it was a loss to lose out on the space from an SD card but very happy otherwise. Took some time to get used to the new version of OS but gradually getting there. Had no problems syncing contacts with MyPhoneExplorer which was great.

Used a desire a few times and all i will say is that you will notice a substantial difference in sped and performance.
