Folks,

I need some urgent advice,

I have HTC desire(UK) which suffers from memory issue. In my quest to resolve this issue I have rooted, S-off & now have 4EXT recovery with dGB ROM.

My phone worked for few days but now I get No SIM card message. I tried switching radio on / off using *#*#4636#*#* and few other tricks like changing SIM cards etc but no use.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks...x

Not obvious to me. I'd generally suggest trying another SIM, but you've done that.

Nandroid then try another ROM? It would eliminate one variable (though I've used dGB for more than a year with no trouble).

Or you could try another radio, but that one should be fine. That's the problem - failure after a few minutes would give some clues, few days not really.

I'd try Oxygen (or the MildWild version) first.

Be careful if you are using the dGB hboot, as no other ROM but dGB will fit that, so you'll need to change hboot first if you are.

As long as you take a Nandroid first you should be fine. Most things apart from bad radio flashes are recoverable. Just make sure you understand the steps before trying things.

Oh, and listen to SUroot - he knows his stuff ;)

Apologies for delay, lots of things going on in life, holiday, new job, etc.

Thank you for your advice. I flashed new ROM on my desire (oxygen 2.3.2 for bravo), kernal version 2.6.35.14_r3. Everything works great except network connectivity.

I get same error "Error while searching for network"

please help!

That baseband should be fine. We can try changing it, but I doubt it will be that.

One question: has this phone been network unlocked? If so, I wonder whether that's come undone.

If you have SIM unlocked the phone at some point in the past, do you have access to a SIM from the original network to test?

If it's an unlocked phone it might be worth looking at the unlocking utility here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943726.

Yes, phone is unlocked and I have used it on other networks earlier.

I tried *#*#4636#*#* earlier to see signal strength but it shows 0.

Is there any other way to find if phone is not unlocked.

The only way to test unlocking is to try a SIM. If the phone was never locked in the first place we don't need to worry about this. If it was unlocked from a network there have been occasions when phones have been relocked, which is why I included the unlocking link.

Otherwise the problem is that the error message is rather generic. A failing SIM can do that, as could incompatible software (eg using the wrong RIL - but unless you've flashed RILs separately from the ROM you don't need to worry about that).

When you are in the *#*#4636#*#* menu what "preferred network type" do you have set? And what network are you trying to use it on? I mainly ask because the "d'oh!" combination is "GSM only" and "3", in which case change it to WCDMA preferred and it will fix it. But I'll be surprised if it's that, as changing ROMs should set that by default.

The last ditch options are to update the radio (do ask if even remotely unsure how to do this, because getting it wrong can kill the phone) or running an RUU (so completely stock software, which would eliminate any chance of it being a software problem).

Thanks, I tried changing combination of network type e.g., GSM only, WCDMA but no luck.

I dont want to risk updating radio as it could brick the phone.

I will try to go back to stock software. Since the phone is now rooted & s-off does it cause any problem installing stock ROM? How should I go about?

Do note that an RUU actually does replace the radio! So my advice would be that if you're going the RUU route, try the official 2.3 update, because that way you at least get the latest radio firmware.
Managed to install 2.3 update, issue remained. So software issue is ruled out. Phone is still sluggish to start though.

After some daring took the htc apart as phone is just out of 2 year warranty and htc refused to support. Noticed one of the sim contacts appear to be bent. Could this be reason of no network found error? Should I just replace the SIM reader on this mobile?
