I installed UD 9.8.0 yesterday, and this ROM is great. Installed very easily, virtually no force closes, it's FAST, and it's beautiful. Very nice interface with the Nextheme, and just a nice, reiable, good-looking ROM.

I've tried many others, but I think I'm done until they release the next version of UD.

I can highly recommend this one.

I dont get into all the flame war stuff..I can see and agree with both side's points...

Having said that, UD was decent for me, except for the ringer problems mentioned at DF. Plus I had an intermittent boot loop problem.

I am now running Chevy's new SS, with JRummy's scripts added on, and Chevy's MV 1.25 kernel. So far it is more stable, and not a single problem yet.

I like Fabs Nextheme R2, with the new Wired tether feature with a P3 Kernel. My temps have yet to go over 100 F. I tried Ultimate Droid, it's to much for me. It doesn't look as clean as Pete's Rooted ROM, Fabolous went off of. I'm really enjoying this ROM. It's either Nextheme R2 for me or the new Bugless Beast when it releases. With Ulimate Droid, my phone always ran hot.....lowest being 98 F.

Agreed. I am trying them all but keep returning to NexTheme.

I'm liking UD 9.8, also.
I really don't give a crap where it came from. I just want the best for me. I'll admit it. I just don't care anymore.
I installed UD after waiting far too long for DroidMod to do something (...ANYthing!). Then I read how BlackDroid is a douche & thief and all this other crap. I let that stupid morality thing into my head, and my conscience prompted me to uninstalled it and put on Cyanogen. (...In my Homer Simpson voice; "Stupid conscience!") I said, "Where's the Wow? I want my damned Wow!" So, very much unimpressed, I went back to UD.

I was/am the type to toss a Lincoln to someone for their efforts. But trying to separate fact from BS and trace back the story of who did what and why and all this shit; Frankly at this point, I can't tell who's one of the good guys anymore. It's exhausting, and so much not worth the effort. And like I say, the fact of the matter is, no matter how good the good guy is, if he he/she isn't producing what I want, I'm just not keeping it on my phone. And I just can't afford to toss money to someone for "a good try". I wish I could.

No more loyalty. No more trying to factor morality points into which ROM my Droid runs! I want what I want. If I want dope, I don't spend days researching the history of where it came from so as to make sure no one was shot down in Mexico over it. If I want sneakers, I don't write to Nike for a certificate ensuring me that no shoe-less Taiwanese or Indonesian kids made them in a sweatshop for a piece of fish and bread at the end of their 12 hour shift before starting their night shift with some big fat sweaty American pedophile.
I also bought a Verizon Droid despite the long list of nasty things Verizon has done in the past to it's customers, employees, the homes they've displaced, small businesses they've crushed and wetlands they've destroyed by putting up their cell towers.
But hey, let's get all divided over something really important, like who stole who's modified open source that was already combined with stolen software and made it better and then called it his own but no one can really prove any of it which makes it all nothing but wild ass speculation to begin with...
Pfffffffffft.
Who cares?

Is BD a douche guilty of theft? Probably. Do I or will I ever know that for a fact? Probably not. But as far as I'm concerned at this point, anyone who does anything that keeps me from making my Droid the best that it can be, either by not including their ROM in a public app that consolidates all of them, or not including every feature they possibly can in their ROM as an option for me to select & enjoy, IS being a douche for the simple reason that they're not giving me what I want.

Know what'd fix all this?
No more free ROMs! Buy a ROM like you buy an app. (We all know how much better a ROM is than most apps, value wise.)
You don't see many piss-fests breaking out about someone stealing someone else's app and making it better.

This'll probably be deleted, just like my previous diatribes about forum behavior here. I don't care though, so long as even just one member gets to read it.

"Where it came from" isn't the issue everyone has with UD. It is how he treats other people that is the issue. He is constantly trying to start crap over absolutely anything he can.

It's fine if you don't agree, and I am happy that you are happy with the ROM. But you are misinformed on what everyone elses problem is. ;)

I don't think you understand his point ... he doesn't care what anyone's problem with him is, just what the end product is.

I enjoy the political debates. I actually find humor and entertainment in a lot of it. But I stick with the Darwinism theory. Every dev will have his/her following that is hard-core supportive. At the end of the day, whatever works best for you is all that should matter. I've tried just about ever release version of every ROM out so far and have had success and failures with all of them. I simply stay with what has been the most stable for me.

"Flame wars" can be distracting, but funny as hell at the same time. I always make sure I have a fresh bag of popcorn and an ice-cold Coke at my side at all times.
It's more fun that going to see a movie....and cheaper too!

I don't care if he stole it from someone else then improved it. The part i care about is he improved it. If people were actually charging something for the roms it would be different, but they arent. It is open source. Its all free. They all got their base from google. End product is what matters. If someone takes someone elses idea and improves it, they deserve the success not the person with the original idea.

Apple got the GUI idea from Xerox, and made it better. Microsoft got it from Apple and made it better (or at least more accessible). Does anyone running windows care? No. Most of us are running windows. What BD does is really not that much different.

I'm with ya for the most part. Taking something that is open source by nature and modifying it...and releasing it for free...cool. I don't give a crap if it's mostly their work or not...doesn't matter to me. I don't care if he pawns it off as his own...again, doesn't matter. The thing that pissed off a lot of people was the "rumor" that BD was coming out with his own "ROM Manager". Now that IS a paid app. Is there really a difference between paid and donate versions of apps? No, all "donate" means that there is a functional free app with less features...kind of like a "trial" version. Now, BD has a reputation for stealing people's work. People were putting things together and if he released a "copied" version of Rom Manager...that would be pretty screwed up! He'd get people to buy his branded version and take the money away from the real creator.

Bottom line...If you like UD...run it! If you support BD, donate money to him. Do what you want to do...it's your phone. But people are going to call it as they see it. For me...there are just too many other dev's that don't start shit that causes threads like this one. I'm just tired of the DroidMods and BD's of the "Android" world causing drama. I'd rather they just start making shit for the iPhone :D

I can see where your coming from with that but in truism thread it was the anti bd people who started any drama and the rest of us pretty much were sick of it, said we didn't care about any of it because we like his rom. This thread actually inspired me to put ultimate Droid on my phone again and I am loving it and can't believe I was letting drama dictate my user experiance(using koush's rom manager that I bought for ud about two days before this all started).

Oh look, a debate about the point of the debate. LOL

If BD makes his ROM manager; -which btw I love reading the pissing among ROM Installation purists who think anyone who needs a ROM manager/auto installer shouldn't be allowed to even have the ROM... -If he makes his manager proprietary, so it's exclusively his, and I need to fork coin over to get it, he's a douche.
But if someone else doesn't one-up his ass (-which frankly should've been done by now!) by spitting out a better ROM (when we all know they are capable) just to spite him, then they're douches too.
I see prints of famous paintings all the time, and nobody knows (or cares) who made them. Only art enthusiasts will be able to point at any prints of the less imfamous paintings & tell you who the original was done by. The rest of us simply like the painting or we don't.

Personally I think if BD doesn't have something really great up his sleeve, or plans to steal something really great, or whatever, then charging a buck for his install manager will backfire on his ass. But again, I really don't care. Until someone tops his ROM, it's what my Droid's packin'.
I suggest simply for the sake of development that everyone stop perpetuating this ongoing morality debate and get back to arguing about what's really important;
-Who has the best ROM, and who's ROM is lame. Some will rise to the challenge, some will drop out, and others will excell. In the end, WE all win.

That's exactly why I stated Darwinism. Not including the select few people who completely idolize a particular ROM maker, the general public of ROM users will root out (no pun intended) the bad ones from the good.
And as you have stated, in the end, we all win by having 'more' of the better stuff!

Man, I can't wait until JIT is completely stable and Flash is released. That's gonna heat up the ROM wars to a new, perhaps, defining level!
